Medical School Has Nothing to Do With Your JAMB Score 😭 Every fresher enters medical school with one invisible badge on their forehead: “I scored 320 in JAMB.” 😭 And trust me, in Year 1, those people move like they were personally sent by the Ministry of Intelligence. You’ll hear things like: “What did you score?” Before you answer, they’ve already adjusted their glasses and said: “Mine was 315… but I was distracted that day sha.” Mini Jesus behavior. 😭 Some of them used to walk around campus like JAMB result is a permanent scholarship to success. But medical school will soon gather everybody. Because after 100 level… JAMB expires. 😂 Nobody cares again. The same person that got 330 can still fail anatomy practical because he called ulna “radius with confidence.” The one that scored 250 can become class rep of distinction because he reads every day like NEPA will soon take light. Year 1 Is Usually a Scam 😭 First year still has traces of secondary school vibes: • Physics • Chemistry • Biology • “I know this one from JAMB” energy So high scorers still feel at home. But once you cross into proper medical courses: • Anatomy • Physiology • Biochemistry Everybody is now on equal suffering ground. No examiner will ask: “State your JAMB score before attempting Question 1.” 😭😭😭 Medical School Is a Game of Consistency The real superstar in med school is not the person who topped JAMB. It is the person who can sit down every day and read even when life is not sweet. The one who says: • 5 pages today • 3 pages tomorrow • Revise lecture notes next week • Cry small • Continue again That person is dangerous. 😂 Because in med school, repeated reading turns confusing topics into your friends. At first: “Glycolysis is wicked.” After reading it 8 times: “Ah glycolysis my brother, how far?” 😭 Meanwhile The “Genius” Can Still Fall Hand There are some very intelligent people who understand everything once. But they have one deadly disease: Tomorrow Syndrome™ They’ll say: • I’ll start next week • I work better under pressure • I just need one night to read • I like reading close to exams Then exam will now show them who owns pressure. 😂 Discipline Is the Real Cut-Off Mark That average student with: • airplane mode on • phone hidden • social media deleted • coffee beside him • dark circles under eyes • reading like tuition expires tomorrow …that person is the real threat. Not because he is the smartest. Because he is available every day. Medical school loves availability. 😭 Brutal Truths Nobody Tells Freshers 1. JAMB got you admission, not graduation JAMB opens the gate. Consistency helps you survive inside. 2. Smartness without discipline is decoration Looks nice. Performs poorly. 😂 3. Small reading daily is stronger than motivational cramming 2 hours daily for months can disgrace 14-hour panic reading. 4. Everybody gets humbled Even those who entered with trumpet music. 5. Character matters Can you focus? Can you sacrifice enjoyment sometimes? Can you continue when tired? That’s where many battles are won. Final Advice to 200 Level Students 😭 If you’re just entering 200 level, reduce unnecessary social media pressure. Some people posting soft life online are repeating pathology quietly. Face your books. Your mates are tweeting “God when?” But reading CNS. Do not be deceived. 😂 Final Conclusion You do not need to be Einstein’s nephew to survive medical school. You need: ✔ Consistency ✔ Discipline ✔ Humility ✔ Good habits ✔ Past questions ✔ Stubbornness against giving up Because in the end, medical school does not ask: “What was your JAMB score?” It asks: “How many times did you stand up after being humbled?”

My father's best friend was a man called Uncle Bayo who disappeared from our lives without explanation. I was 12 the last time I saw him. He came to our flat in Gbagada, argued with my father in the bedroom for an hour, and walked out without saying goodbye to me. My father never spoke his name again. Neither did my mother. Uncle Bayo became a silence with a shape. Twenty-six years passed. I was in Philadelphia for a conference. A networking dinner at a hotel downtown. Across the room, a man about my father's age caught my eye and held it too long. He approached me during dessert and said my surname like it was a question he already knew the answer to. We sat in the hotel lobby until 2am. He told me the story my father never did. They had started a construction company together in the early 90s. It had failed because of a contract dispute with a senator. The senator had paid only half the money and refused the rest. The debt had crushed them. Uncle Bayo had blamed my father for trusting the senator. My father had blamed Uncle Bayo for not reading the fine print. The friendship had shattered. Two men who had been closer than brothers had become strangers over something neither of them could control. Uncle Bayo had moved to America after the falling out. He had built a new life, a new business, a small contracting firm in West Philly. He had married a Ghanaian woman and had two daughters. He had never returned to Nigeria. He had never called my father. He had assumed the silence was mutual. I asked why he approached me now. He said he recognised my face because I looked like my father at 30. He said he had been waiting for decades to see that face again, to explain something that was never about betrayal. He said the argument had been about shame, not money. Both men had felt they failed each other. Neither had known how to say it. I called my father from the hotel room. It was 3am in Lagos. He answered on the second ring, voice thick with sleep and alarm. I told him who I was sitting with. The line went quiet. Then my father did something I had never heard him do. He cried. Not softly. The kind of crying that comes from a place words cannot reach. Uncle Bayo flew to Lagos 3 months later. They met at the same flat in Gbagada. They sat in the same living room where the argument had happened. They didn't re-litigate the past. They just sat together, two old men with white hair and matching hypertension medication, and let the silence heal. My father died last year. Uncle Bayo spoke at the funeral. He said the greatest thief in life is not money or failure. It is the belief that there is always more time. Call them. The debt is not theirs. It is yours.

*THE DAY I DEFENDED GARRI IN SCHOOL DEBATE* 😂 Back in secondary school, our English teacher made the mistake of choosing me, Oluwafemi, to represent my house in an inter-school debate 🎤😂 The topic was:*“Which Is Better: Garri or Rice?”* Immediately I heard that, I jumped up and shouted: “Madam, my mama dey sell garri, I'm gonna win this debate”....😜 The whole class burst into laughter. My opponent was one fine girl from another school, Amara, to speak in favor of Rice 🍚✨ She adjusted her tie like she was defending PhD thesis and said: “Rice is food of celebration 🎉 No wedding is complete without rice. No birthday is successful without rice. No Christmas is valid without rice. Nobody says: ‘Come celebrate with us, we are serving soaked garri and groundnut.’” Crowd laughed 😂😂 She continued: “Rice has class 😌 Rice has packaging 💅 Rice has varieties: Jollof, Fried, Coconut, Ofada, White Rice & Stew 🍛 Rice enters party with confidence. Rice wears suit and tie 👔 Garri enters in rubber bowl.” Audience screamed 😭🤣 Then she dropped final bomb 💣: “Rice is for champions 🏆 Athletes eat rice. Presidents eat rice. Garri is what people eat when things are not moving well.” Thunderous applause 👏🔥 Even my own classmates were clapping. Traitors. 😒😂 Then it was my turn 😎 I adjusted my oversized school trousers and stepped forward like a warrior 🕺 “Good day honorable judges, respected audience, and my opponent speaking under the influence of jollof propaganda…” 🤣 “Today I stand to defend not just a food… I stand to defend a LEGEND 💪A SURVIVOR 🫡 A SAVIOR OF HUMANITY 🙌 I stand to defend…GARRI!!!”...... Half the students shouted: “YEEEEEE!!!” 😂🔥 I asked the judges: “Do you have garri in your house?” 👀 They all laughed........ One judge nodded 😂..... I shouted: “Exactly! Because Garri is the LAST HOPE OF MANKIND!” When rice finishes — Garri is there 🫡 When salary never enter — Garri is there 💸 When mummy says “manage till month end” — Garri appears like superhero 🦸 Audience: “YEEEEEE!” 🤣 “Rice is for parties 🎉 Garri is for survival 🪖 Rice is occasional 📅 Garri is dependable 💯” Then I turned to Amara dramatically 😤👇 “Can rice save you in 30 seconds?!” “When hunger strikes by 11:47pm 🌙 Can rice shout: ‘My son, I am ready!’?” NO! But Garri? Add water 💧 Add sugar 🍬 Add groundnut 🥜 SALVATION HAS COME! 🙌🤣 Then I explained the meaning of GARRI 😭🔥 G – Giver of Energy ⚡ A – Attitude Changer 😤 R – Restorer of Hope 🙏 R – Reducer of Weakness 💪 I – Increaser of Agility 🏃 “Garri has many names:” Student Power 📚 Life Support ❤️ Hunger Destroyer 🍽️ Emergency Department 🚑 Federal Ministry of Survival 🏛️🤣 “Garri is loyal!” Cornflakes came and left 🥣 Golden Morn disappointed 😭 Noodles became expensive 💸 But Garri remained faithful. Faithful in dry season ☀️ Faithful in rainy season 🌧️ Faithful in suffering 😭 Then I delivered the final blow 💣🔥 “My opponent said nobody serves garri in party…” I paused dramatically 😌 “THAT IS BECAUSE GARRI IS NOT A PARTY GUEST…” Entire hall went silent 👀 Then I shouted: “GARRI IS FAMILY!!!” 🏠🤣🔥 Hall exploded 😂😂😂 I pointed at Amara one last time: “Rice is for enjoyment… GARRI IS FOR EMERGENCY AND ENJOYMENT!” Rice needs firewood 🔥 Rice needs gas ⛽ Rice needs pot 🍲 Rice needs time ⏳ But u see Garri?Just bring cup and water…WE MOVE! 🚶‍♂️💨🤣 I hope with this very few points of mine, I have been able to convince you that Gaari is far far better than Rice. Thank you. 🎤 Abeg did I win amara 🤣🤣🤷... Copied
