French Politician Recounts How Chirac Extorted African Leaders French president Emmanuel Macron continues to flog the dead horse of French imperialism in Africa at the ongoing "Africa Forward" summit in Nairobi, embarrassing himself with increasingly ham-fisted antics that have completely failed to generate the desired response. With the help of Kenyan President William Ruto, Macron is attempting to rebrand the latest iteration of France's age-old total dependence on theft and plunder of Africa's wealth as "partnership". This video, ironically sourced from French public broadcaster France24, encapsulates the true and obvious nature of Françafrique, and what French imperialism continues to mean for its impoverished African colonies in the 21st century. In this interview aired in April 2026, French lawyer and politician Robert Bourgi, recounts how former French President Jacques Chirac extorted African leaders from across Francophone Africa to finance his political ambitions between the 1980s and 1990s. In a 2011 interview with France’s Journal de Dimanche newspaper, Bourgi had named Burkina Faso's Blaise Compaore, Senegal's Abdoulaye Wade, Ivory Coast's Laurent Gbagbo, Gabon's Omar Bongo and Congo-Brazzaville's Denis Sassou Nguesso as parties in this extortion racket. In December 2011, President Chirac was found guilty of embezzling public funds and breaching public trust during his time as Mayor of Paris from 1977–1995, in an unprecedented conviction of a former French head of state. He received a measly two-year suspended prison sentence for his crimes.
