Electricity Generation Companies in Nigeria said sector debt has risen to N6.5 trillion and could climb to N8.8 trillion by year-end, citing a N200 billion monthly shortfall. In a memo to the Ministry of Power, the GenCos said only 35 per cent of the N280 billion monthly invoices are paid, with 2025 debt alone at N2.4 trillion. They called for urgent structural reforms and a presidential-led intervention to restore liquidity and investor confidence across the value chain. Energy expert Prof. Wumi Iledare said sustainable reform must align gas supply, transmission and distribution, while strengthening the role of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc in stabilising the market. The warning comes weeks after the Federal Government issued a N501 billion power sector bond under the Presidential Power Sector Debt Reduction Programme, which was fully subscribed. Just to put things in context, Burna Boy’s concert in Sydney took place on the same day as the R&B Friday Festival, which was headlined by Mariah Carey, Eve, Tinie Tempah, Lil John and Wiz Khalifa. Yet he still managed to sell out an arena. That alone highlights the scale of his global influence. Burna Boy 🦍🦍🦍 @BurnaboyBase @BENNY7GG
