Be careful when you release a new functionality in your software. As bad as it could be your users gonna start using it and when there’s room for improvement they’ll already got used to it, so it could be really hard to drive the enhancements.

There are some situation where the client simply doesn’t care about mutations so why force it to cast to immutable? It’s no good for DX

@SamueleLilli @webdevilopers @FredBouchery No DateimeInterface is a liar the only time you would use it is when you are 1000% sure the code will never ever attempt to modify your date. In any other case use DateTimeImmutable. DateimeInterface should only be used for migration toward DateTimeImmutable

@nyamsprod @webdevilopers @FredBouchery Accept any type as input (DateTimeInterface) as you can stay flexible and have a more permissive type, return the Immutabile as output. That’s my take with dates.

@FredBouchery The number of bugs I saw in codebases because of those missing 9 characters is mind blowing. Also newcomers to PHP would be grateful if they were told and taught from the beginning to use DateTimeImmutable. And then we complain about example code still using mysql_query in 2023
