They’re farthest in the genus canid from dog (Canis familiaris). Disastrous because calling so meddles with/gives less importance to conservation of true dogs like Dingo.

But what I’m trying to say here that Ethiopian wolf while from the genus Canis is still far away from the grey wolf, farther then even golden jackal, so you shouldn’t be comparing it with grey wolves.
