It doesn't matter if the chief guest of an event *you* have organised is not a media celebrity. *You* have invited that person. Basic courtesy demands a welcome and starting the event on time, with some effort to have an audience. I see nothing wrong in giving that incident visibility and calling out the college administration. People are using this to vent out political affiliation driven hate

@PDesh_ @rupamurthy1 Like their parents don't, their college doesn't, but this lady will? They will learn what they need to learn because life will teach them by way of consequences. Not by anybody or everybody trying to act as faux custodians of everybody else's life.

@SandeepHasurkar @rupamurthy1 Students require discipline from time to time. A student who cannot exhibit bare minimum discipline will have a very bad adulthood. If anything call them out on their indiscipline is an act of a teacher. Alas, the college cannot do it. SP did. Thanks to her.

ANI Editor Smita Prakash was invited as Chief Guest to the oh-so-prestigious Miranda House, University of Delhi. She arrived two minutes early. The faculty and organisers, however, clearly operate on a different timezone called irresponsibility. No show. Just 4 to 5 students & a whole lot of embarrassment. She did what any self respecting professional would do, she called it out. And right on cue, the usual opposition circus showed up, not to question the incompetence, but to troll the person who had the basic decency to show up on time. Let’s be clear. This was not just disrespect towards the Chief Guest. This was Miranda House disrespecting its own name, its own standards, and whatever remains of its credibility. An institution that cannot honour its own invitation, cannot respect someone else’s time, and cannot get its faculty to show up, has no business lecturing students about discipline or responsibility. This episode did absolutely nothing to Smita Prakash’s reputation. If anything, it exposed exactly who values professionalism and who treats it like an optional extra. As for the ones laughing, I would say this reflects on them too, but that would require them to have a reputation worth denting. Class cannot be taught, and this entire episode is proof of that.

Why are ppl saying that she should not have called it out!! I think it’s great that she did and more people should. Not being tardy when in charge of something, is a basic and very critical sign of respect and accountability.

@PDesh_ @rupamurthy1 & btw it was invite from a student club. Not official invite from college. Apology's also from student club. So this is what head of a news agency's been reduced to? Media tantrum on lack of student discipline, demanding their apology. Speaks more of person than offenders.

@PDesh_ @rupamurthy1 Think Emergency. Most students are young, idealist, & most importantly, have nothing to lose, prone to challenge authority. Its a student club. Demand & they give, as you say, "didley squat". Modi gets crowds. Hangers on don't. It's free market. Respect is earned not demanded.

When a random student club in a college invites you to be the chief guest in an event on Saturday morning with students being participants, one should have some sense of what's going to happen. It's broadcasting one's own credulity and humiliation.

Much outrage by newsagency head invited by collegeclub only to face no show. 2pt. Its students, not co. or party. If egos are so fragile, don't accept their invites. Also Modi's popular for what he does. Selfimportant but inconsequential hangerson can be politically expensive.

@smitaprakash It seems invitation from college club, not the college. Why drag in principal, staff, entire student body? A little humility, less self importance, & sense of humour - along with a better screening of invites accepted -would have prevented this much ado about nothing. 🙄

To the Principal, staff and students of Miranda College, Delhi University, you need to respect the Chief Guest you invite for your events. I was there for a no show! Why law firms? Do law firms understand the spirit over letter of corporate governance? Are ethics/values justiciable & measurable, or intangible prompts to corporate decisions? Can law firm conclude ethics/value driven corporate culture- like God- not proven, hence not exist?

Also, just a scenario analysis .. If resignation letter had specifically mentioned the Dubai AT1 bond fiasco, can Mr Pandey imagine the consequences on a systemically important deposit taking bank? As Mr. Pandey mentioned, this matter is best left to the primary regulator RBI.

Generic version by Mr. Pandey is correct. However HDFC is a systemically important deposit taking bank. Can he imagine mayhem if letter, or minutes, had report attached specifying in detail all issues? It is the exception that proves the rule. Banks are best left to RBI.

Spin overtime? Beyond governance is culture. & there is a big culture problem. & its hardcharging, edgy, too-clever-by-half style may, sooner than later, land it in trouble. There's cleverness. & there's wisdom. Better to smell coffee in time, than roses in the graveyard?

@ShankkarAiyar He's resigned indicating his discomfort in generic terms. That's nuanced signal enough for stakeholders to begin own investigations & arrive at their conclusions. & action to be taken, if any. It's now for regulator & markets to figure out why/if his stance's justified or not.

Not a peep out of China. Not on Venezuela. Not on Iran. What if this is not some Chinese four-dimensional chess or deep geopolitical strategy? What if this is China's Cheng Ho moment? Uncertainties of geopolitics - and geoeconomics - just got exponential.

The entire raison'/ premise of petrodollar system in 1974 was of stability & security. If neither's now guaranteed, irrespective of duration or outcome of this war, where does that leave USD over the long term? Fundamental Q.s now being forced on global financial system.
