The PM is heading to Singapore to secure fuel supplies. Singapore is Australia's largest source of refined fuel — my tracking shows multiple active tanker routes from Jurong/Pulau Bukom to Kwinana and the east coast. But Singapore is a refiner, not a producer. Their crude feedstock comes from the Middle East, West Africa, and SE Asia — much of it transiting the same chokepoints under pressure right now. Securing the refinery relationship matters. But it's important to note that if Singapore's own inputs are disrupted, there's nothing to refine. The real question is what's upstream of Singapore.

Australia is the largest importer of diesel fuel in the world. It also holds the lowest fuel reserves of any IEA member nation — dead last out of 28 developed economies. Japan stockpiles 260 days. We're at ~26 and falling. Six of eight refineries have closed since 2013. We import over 90% of our refined fuel, mostly through a single chokepoint that's been closed for 37 days. I built fuelaustralia.org to track what's actually happening — in real time, from primary sources: — Live AIS tanker tracking (750+ vessels, 40+ confirmed inbound) — Government reserve data direct from DCCEEW Power BI — 90-day depletion projections with vessel delivery modelling — Daily intelligence briefings synthesised from 80+ sources — Cargo type inference, multi-source vessel fusion, confidence grading — 28 evidence-backed policy solutions stress-tested against expert review Every data point sourced. Every claim confidence-graded. Independent and non partisan. Follow @FuelAustralia for daily briefings.

My live tracking confirms the diesel problem in real time. I'm independently monitoring 28 inbound fuel tankers from 9 open sources (port schedules, AIS satellite, fixture reports). The numbers: Diesel burns at ~92 ML/day. Petrol at 44. Jet at 25. Same diesel-skew you've identified — and it shows up starkly in the forward projection. With verified-only supply, diesel exhaustion is projected ~16 May. Petrol? Beyond 90 days. The diesel gap is the crisis. I've built a live model showing exactly this at fuelaustralia.org/reserves — toggle between "Verified" and "Est. Flow" to see the range of outcomes. Also a tool to look at some solutions... Would be interested in your take on the structural storage gap. Australia's 25-day reserve has been the norm for years — the crisis just exposed what was always there. Agree with your EV point. Mining, agriculture, trucking, and defence can't electrify overnight. 33,500 ML/year of diesel demand doesn't disappear with passenger EVs — you need green ammonia for shipping, e-fuels for aviation, and battery-electric haul trucks for mining (see the long-term vision page). fuelaustralia.org

A 1.4% levy on the gambling industry could compensate the media for ALL revenue lost from a potential gambling advertising ban. Australians lose more money gambling than any other country. It's time for our governments to act. @AmyRemeikis #auspol

Circulation is way down. Reporter: Are you concerned that your threat to bomb power plants and bridges amount to war crimes? Trump: No, not at all. These are disturbed people. Quiet. A cyclist has been rescued after being stranded in the Snowy River for four hours overnight. The 31-year-old became stuck mid-crossing near Suggan Buggan after water levels rose unexpectedly. Clinging to reeds, they activated a satellite device, triggering a rescue operation. The rider was winched to safety just after midnight and taken to hospital, uninjured.

Up to $100,000 in car parts have been stolen in a destructive smash and grab in Hallam early this morning. Three thieves reversed a tray truck through the windows of the business on the Princes Highway just after 3am, clearing out shelves of gauges, computer equipment and a set of rims. After ransacking the store for almost 10 minutes the trio fled in the trucks. Police are investigating the incident. More from 10 News Melbourne: 10.com.au/news/melbourne

Especially today, my instinctive sympathy remains with all of our special forces soldiers from the Afghanistan campaign, fighting at our country’s command against a merciless enemy, often under highly restrictive rules of engagement that meant known terrorists were captured and released many times. As prime minister during multiple deployments, and having spent time with our troops in war-zones, I could not have asked for a more loyal and professional military and my respect for their service is undiminished. Of course, there are rules that have to be observed and enforced, even against soldiers in times of war. Still, it’s wrong to judge the actions of men in mortal combat by the standards of ordinary civilian life. If Ben Roberts-Smith transgressed, why wasn’t this picked up prior to his gallantry awards and why wasn’t any culture of brutality towards prisoners detected by his more senior officers, and dealt with quickly, rather than being allowed to fester, as has been alleged, for over a decade? The Brereton investigation commenced in 2016 and only concluded in 2020. The first war crime charge against a former special forces soldier was only laid in 2023 and three years later, this has still not been finalised. After doing their best to serve our country, dozens of former special forces soldiers should not still be in limbo years later because of ongoing investigations that have only resulted in charges in two cases. Justice delayed is justice denied. If evidence is clear, and cases are strong, they should be brought and concluded without delay. Otherwise, people should be cleared to get on with their lives lest the process itself become the punishment. In Afghanistan, our soldiers fought bravely and well for a just cause. I am very sorry that some of them have been subjected to a form of persecution by the country they served.
