It's like how they say that you can't uninstall Microsoft Edge. For most people, that's true! But for the nerds, it's not.

Perhaps that shifts the blame to Valve, but I think it's Apple's fault for putting them in that position. It's a bit strange to have to pay Apple more than Valve to put an app on Steam.

@_kznof @ddeaen Incumbent software has crazy staying power, it isn't just Windows. We are having this conversation on X after all, a website owned by a fascist. The open source community has been building ethical alternatives for decades, but most people worry more about friction over ethics.

@ddeaen it doesn't even take being a nerd to use linux, it just takes stepping one nanometer off of your comfort zone

@ddeaen Anything that isn't open source these days feels so hostile towards the user, filled with dark patterns trying to trick you into their services. I don't like using computers that try to fight me when I want to uninstall a web browser.

What happens if (or arguably, when) Procreate enshitifies? Will people be able to back up an old version? Prevent it from updating? Pirate it? You can't do that on iOS.

@reduzio The first one I feel is self explanatory, I'll try to explain the second: Our animator has to edit code to change an AnimationTree. TSCN's do strange things which requires looking at git diffs. The layer system is confusing. Lots of stuff that leads artists to ask me for help.

@reduzio My most wanted features mostly all have PRs right now. 3D physics interpolation, shader stutter mitigations, and better performing GI seem on the way for 4.4. Ignoring those: 1. C# profiling/debugger integration 2. Make the engine more artist friendly
