@denise_dewald @KellyBacon Other options include a shot of pitocin to encourage contractions to continue and/or externally massaging the uterus by pushing on the stomach. The shot is often given after birth (called active management) to reduce likelihood of hemorrhage.

What would you have already died of if you’d been born in the middle ages

Septic arthritis at 8, appendicitis at 20, possibly childbirth at 25. Amazing midwives + fantastic doctors + modern medicine in 2019 Toronto = baby and mama home safe and sound the same day. Same birth in 1919 (or today in Sierra Leone) likely would not have such a happy ending.
