Today in Utrecht a grim milestone was marked; for the 2nd year in a row, a Dutch activist group laid out children’s shoes & read aloud the names & ages of the children who have been killed by the Israelis in Gaza. Today they read 19k names. It took almost 6 hours.

No, inheritance tax isn't a double tax on your already taxed, hard earned money. You're dead. You don't pay it. It's paid, to all intents and purposes, by the people receiving the inheritance, who absolutely did not earn it, and don't deserve a massive tax free windfall.

I really hate it when people say “my taxes pay your wages” to public sector workers. I have never heard a doctor or nurse say “my training, my long nights studying after work, my moving around from job to job, my absorption of £100,000 in student debt saved your life”.

@oldenoughtosay And depending on how comfortable you are near water with toddlers, some of the Quais de la Seine are car-free now. I have not been, but it looks lovely for a stroll in the sun

@oldenoughtosay Jardins du Luxembourg are wonderful, they can play with boats in the fountains! Sometimes they are kid-friendly activities in the Carrousel du Louvre, so it’s worth checking that.

@oldenoughtosay If someone asked me if they could take a baby to my talk, the answer would be a resounding yes. Academia is not always super friendly to mums, and the only way to change that is to claim that space. (But that’s easy to say when I am not postpartum so be gentle with yourself too!)

@oldenoughtosay I feel that accounts, like yours, who grew organically and genuinely, BEFORE the monetisation are the only ones who are likely to break even. People now trying to make money off it just seem to rehash the same old tricks/debate we have seen a million times.
