Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo, I’ve listened to your recent explanation about getting a tattoo and your statement that you might get more tattoos or even dreads. When you said “if it’s paining you, go and take Panadol,” I understand you were trying to brush off the concern, but many people felt it came across as dismissive. I want to speak from the heart as someone who cares about the body of Christ. A very large number of young people already have tattoos, and those are exactly the same people God has called you to reach. I completely get that. But as a pastor, mentor, and someone many look up to, the reality is that people don’t just listen to your words, they watch your life and often try to model it. Even if something isn’t clearly a sin in Scripture, there are actions that can still cause a weaker brother or a new believer to stumble. When young Christians see their pastor openly embracing and planning more of something that many in the church still view as worldly or questionable, it can confuse them and make them feel that the line between the church and the world is disappearing. That, I believe, is one major reason Christianity is losing distinctiveness in our generation. I’ve watched some of the clips where you explained your decision. Honestly, sir, there seems to be a trace of regret in your eyes, like part of you wishes you could turn back the clock. Whether I’m right or wrong about that, I hope you can feel that many of us are saying this not to attack you, but because we love you and we love the flock God has placed in your care. My sincere prayer is that your influence continues to draw people closer to Jesus, not push them toward compromise. You carry a heavy responsibility, and many eyes are on you. I say all of these respectfully, not to condemn, but to encourage careful thought about the long-term impact of your choices as a leader. May God continue to guide and keep you.
