I came across this little auk in the neighborhood, as one does. Reader, it was love at first sight, and though I am sad that it was collected to start with, I decided to give it a place in our new home. What places you have been, little buddy. I hope to find a way back myself.

Devastating scenes from Hornøya. several hundreds oiled #seabirds Mainly auks, but also Kittiwakes, gulls and shags. No source detected, but strong easterly winds suggest potential spill come from east. Worst scenario now - beginning of breeding season

Crow country, of a kind: a fascinating exhibit of Britta Marakatt-Labba's activist needlework @nasjonalmuseet. Crows represent darkness in Sámi culture. In this case, the hundreds of Norwegian police officers flown in to remove peaceful protestors trying to save the river.

I am intrigued by the upcoming exhibit of Britta Marakatt-Labba at the National Museum in Oslo on nature and Sami culture, her use of needlework, and in particular the focused talk on this piece, The Crows.

The first blackbird sang two days ago, and the pussy willows are out. There may still be snow and ice, but we are marching steadfastly into spring. Of course, last year it still was snowing in April, but I do believe the tide has turned.

We're moving. It's my 1st house as an adult - student dorms & apartments since I was 17. I'll have my own room to set up as an office and retreat. Right now I've a small desk wedged next to a chest of drawers in the bedroom, out of necessity, and it is not productive.

2. Papa has advanced & untreatable chronic lymphocytic leukaemia
3. All of us hope he makes his 96th birthday on Monday!
The main thing? Ensuring he lives up until he dies!

Visited my Gran in hospital today. Emotionally very difficult (advanced dementia, doesn't speak much any more except 'yes' or 'no'). She recognised my face though, and smiled and pulled me in to kiss me on the cheek when she saw me
