WWII NZ 📻 listeners responded massively to hearing the voices of loved ones fighting on the other side of the world, in an era before even international phone calls. (Ngā mihi to @AtakohuM for her awhi with this article for NZJPH) phanza.org.nz/wp-content/upl…

@LI_politico Best advice I ever got was to scale back expectations of what you can achieve with a newborn in the house, like waaaay back: “If you and the baby are fed and clothed, you’re doing great.” That’s it. Food and warmth. The rest can wait.

If you remember the impact of Sinéad O’Connor and that 1990 video for ‘Nothing compares 2u’, this podcast is fascinating listening. RIP theringer.com/platform/amp/2…

@WajahatAli I remember watching ToD at the time it came out and being so disappointed. Even in those “unenlightened” times the racist caricatures seemed very off and the ‘screaming damsel’ throughout was just horrible. It seemed such a waste.

Been re-watching all the #IndianaJones movies before Dial of Destiny. Here's my take:
1) Raiders: Still holds up, moves like lightning, & I forgot how good Karen Allen is as Marion.
2) Temple of Doom: Amazing first 15 minutes + final 15 minutes, & amazing racism - just...wow

@MediaHistoryNow Doug Laurenson (right). NZers love of mobile radio stations continued, with a wooden recording caravan unit built and sent to Egypt with the troops. More here (my blog) worldwarvoices.wordpress.com/home/

@MediaHistoryNow So good! The plan was to make this a permanent thing but WWII intervened and the station manager became a member of NZ’s wartime mobile broadcasting unit

@MediaHistoryNow This graphic is very reminiscent of the original logo of New Zealand’s Radio Hauraki - a “pirate” music station started in the 1960s

Founded by advertising executive Marcel Bleustein, Radio-Cité was France's (and probably Europe's) first "music and news" radio station: radiotsf.fr/radio-cite-la-…

@wdwunlockmagic Tokyo Disney is best of all, which is why we go there now in preference to either American park. Sorry.

Some vintage radio for #ANZAC day. Listen to the incredible stories of the NZers in the Long Range Desert Group, who fought the Sahara Desert, as much as the enemy. worldwarvoices.wordpress.com/2023/04/16/voi…
