A plea from Kabul:
I know this is probably going to be hidden by the AI algorithms we've been struggling so much with recently. But we need to be seen right now, so I'll give it the old college try and beg Facebook to just show our pleas for help to the many people who support us and really do want to know what's going on here. The urgency is as real as a scream in the dark. So if you see this, please read to the end.
The entire KSAR Team, our management and our staff, all of us are committed without hesitation to ensuring the current and continued safety of our staff, the survival of our animals, and the open doors of these shelters and hospitals we've fought so hard to build from nothing with sweat and blood and heart.
Right now it is late at night and quiet in Kabul, and we are grateful. We are also aware that could change in a matter of seconds and without warning. We're as ready for that possibility as we can be and calm because of those preparations. But the ongoing economic free fall, supply shortages, and cost inflation resulting from nearly all of the borders of Afghanistan closed due to conflict---this causes constant dread. It is hard, really f*cking hard. We are struggling to stay afloat now and to find adequate resources for the immediate future. We truly need continued and profound help to manage this and survive, and we don't for how long. Thinking in months is more realistic than thinking in days or weeks.
I am grateful to the core that none of our staff or animals were harmed in the airstrikes in Kabul that just one week ago killed so many civilians, including hundreds of patients at a hospital just a few miles away. We were lucky. We can grieve with the community suffering around us now, we do. We can hope and pray that it doesn't happen again. But we are powerless to prevent intentional violence of that magnitude, completely.
What we can do now, what we have to do, is stay afloat, feed the souls in our care, protect the voiceless lives that depend on us, insist that those lives matter with our own voices. And just as important, we need to lift up our staff and their families so that they can weather these shortages without hunger or fear of hunger. These force majeure moments--this is when promises matter, community and responsibility matter. So we simply can't fail.
Please help us pull through this. It won't be forever, we'll get on our feet again. But right now we're not. The links below are a few concrete immediate needs. Every donation makes a difference. And we need your voices, your care, your effort. We need you.

Trump: We had it up to 4, and then we had a death, and death is very bad when you're the Speaker and you have a majority of 2 or 3. We had one man who was very ill. It looked like he wasn't going to make it. I won't mention his name. Should I? It looked he would be dead by June.
Speaker Johnson: Ok, that wasn't public. But yeah, that's... it was grim
Hopefully you come to realize that the First Amendment doesn't mean you must kindly. He has the right to be an A-hole. Calling
for the doxxing of people for not aligning with your beliefs is weak. But y’all also think violence is ok as long as whatever is spoken hurts your feelings.
Trump: Gavin Newscum has admitted that he is that he has learning disabilities. I think a president should not have learning disabilities. The president of the United States, Gavin Newscum, admitted that he has learning disabilities, dyslexia, everything about him is dumb
@news10nbc This is disgusting. Those poor animals being starved to death. How could someone do this. We need much stricter laws for this. I hope he goes to jail for a long time. Praying for those poor animals.

‼️‼️We urgently need your help buying 🍚!‼️‼️
Most supplies in this country enter through Pakistan or Iran, and those borders are fully closed now, causing the prices of basic goods to skyrocket, even those produced in Afghanistan, such as the variety of rice we use to cook our dog food. In short, it's nearly doubled in two weeks, and we need to place our bulk order immediately, before it goes up even more.
Every 4 months we order 7 metric tons of 🍚 from Baghlan that we use in our homemade dog food, made twice daily by teams of cooks. Our recipe includes rice, soya, chicken, coconut oil, pumpkin, red lentils, eggs, and fresh seasonal vegetables.
Normally it costs between $4000 and $5000 to purchase 7 metric tons, which is a full truck load of this variety of rice driven down from northern Afghanistan to our doorsteps in Kabul. Because of the closed borders, stopped supply routes, and the ensuing soaring prices of all goods, we were last week quoted $7680. Although the price has risen yet again this week, our vendor will sell it to us at last week's price if we can order it quickly.
We are working on emergency grants for these costs and are hopeful, but until those come through, we are depending on you completely.

🥘 MARCH ANIMAL FOOD FUNDRAISER 🥘
We feed over 415 animals at KSAR every day, making fresh dog food twice daily and using kibble supplemented with freshly cooked chicken for our cats. Our wildlife, equines, and livestock get diets tailored to their needs.
Because of the border closures with both Pakistan and Iran, the price of goods has soared and we are anticipating much higher prices this month for all basic food goods, hence the higher than normal food fund goal this month.

I've posted a heartbreaking update to the GofundMe. I'm at a loss. You have all been there for me in the past. I hate this news for all of us. gofund.me/966bfb70e
We'd like to make a big push on My Giving Circle this week (link below), because we're #2 and we're nearly 15,000 🗳️ below #1. I know we've asked for a lot of help this month, and as the last month in this grant cycle, I'm hoping we can direct donations for various fundraisers through My Giving Circle--starting today with rent. So all donations made today and tomorrow will go towards our March rent costs. We are lucky that we have five year contracts for rent on all of our facilities, so that is at least a fixed cost, unlike the hikes in food and goods, and we'd like to get a bump on it.
I've spoken with our staff in Kabul and tonight we've had a blessedly quiet and calm night so far. We work hard to keep our staff and animals safe, and we will do everything in our power to weather this as well.

🛟 This fundraiser is to upgrade the safety of our facilities and our emergency preparedness. It should cover the blast film needed for all windows in all of our facilities, which prevents glass from shattering and flying during explosions. It will also cover extensive trauma/first aid kits for humans and animals that we will put together and have at each facility and in each vehicle.
We don't know the costs of all this yet--we're moving on the fly. I'm setting the goal at 10,000 USD and will update it as we know more.
