This is a highly problematic quote, and it is obvious Fleming genuinely believes it. At one point they had Sarfaraz, Kartik, and Veer at 5 to 7, with Kamboj and Henry to follow. Just because players are hitting from ball one does not mean the need for finishers is gone. Finishers are not just batters who accelerate at the end. Good finishers are a specific type of batter, especially strong against slower variations and full lengths from pacers, the go to deliveries at the death. Great finishers also handle hard lengths and even an over of wrist spin. CSK have two acceptable options in this role right now. Brevis destroys full and slower balls but struggles against back of a length. Jamie Overton is at least competent against most pace types. One was injured, and the other, despite being their best player in the first game, was dropped. Just stacking high strike rate players in random order is not how you crack T20s.

After watching this game, I can understand why Veer was benched against RR. Beyond the obvious issue of RR having four left handers in the top six or seven, his batting today has been shocking. He looks like someone playing a level above where he currently belongs (even though I have seen better from him in domestic cricket). If this is what CSK saw in the nets, their concern makes sense. Combine that with the fact that CSK will always struggle to bat Kartik in the top four, where he is at his best, and the decision to invest 28 crores in Kartik and Veer looks even more questionable than it did at the time.

Shame on CSK's auction strategy, they went with such a huge huge purse at mini auction this year & now they don't even have 4 overseas to start with. Brevis injured, game over & tonight only 2 overseas are playing. These dumb ones ignored Liam Livingstone, who could have been a perfect fit as lower middle order batter with bowling skills & they chose to spent their 28 crores on 2 youngster which will get released without performance specially Karthik Sharma. A single skill player like Karthik who is young & plays in middle order is just feeling the pressure of 14 crores, at max he should have got 3-4 crores just like Salil Arora. They had to go for Liam Livingstone!

Absolutely zero intent in majority of inning & the moment he played it in air, he got out. 28(22) in big 2026 is poor by any parameter specially on a pitch where a kid is smashing boundaries for fun. I am his big fan but his game doesn't make sense for opening, let Mhatre open the inning & Gaikwad at 3. His T2OI career is over, I have supported him a lot but now T2OI game has moved forward & he is still batting with same old intent. & pls don't come with Virat Kohli, he is not fighting for a place in T2OI team. Virat had his fun & he ended his career as greatest T2OI player of all time, Gaikwad is fighting with likes of Jaiswal, Abhishek, Samson & Vaibhav & you just can't bat like this.
