The story of the Fever and Caitlin Clark is simple. She is more than a basketball player. She is an entertainer. People pay to see her like she’s the star of a Broadway show or it’s her concert. This means honesty and transparency are crucial, especially with attendance dropping.

2 years ago the WNBA had its first bona fide box office star in Caitlin Clark.
Her team, the Indiana Fever, had to move its games into massive venues, and charge hundreds of dollars for tickets in response to demand to see her play.
Even today, out of jersey sales for ALL basketball players, hers are second only to NBA star Steph Curry...meaning she sells even more jerseys than guys like Lebron James.
But with the hype came extra scrutiny on a league that was clearly unprepared for the big time, and more interested in identity politics than in growth.
Before, the story was about a generational talent.
Now it's becoming about a generational fumble.
I've never seen anything like it.

USA Network (NBCUniversal) had built broadcast promotions around her. National advertisers buying inventory into that broadcast window paid rates that priced in CC's presence. Ticket holders bought to see Clark in person and had no recourse. Fantasy and betting markets had to scramble. None of those parties should have been inconvenienced if Tuesday's situation had been disclosed on Tuesday. Again @IndianaFever , not good optics!

Given White said Clark did not practice yesterday, and there was no indication Clark was dealing with an ailment until she was ruled out 100 minutes before tip tonight, would imagine this is something the league may take a look at

The #Fever should be fined. Can't set a precedent like this for other teams and for it to continue. To many rely on these reports for their decision making $$$. @IndianaFever @AmberLCox

The Fever may have violated league rules with its decision to not play Caitlin Clark vs. the Fire on Wednesday. League rules stipulate all matters relating to player availability must be submitted by 5 p.m. the day before the game, unless during back-to-backs. Clark did not practice on Tuesday, which should've been reported by Indiana. The team instead waited until just before the game to announce her injury.
