"2021 must be the year young people stand on our shoulders, as not just the leaders of the future, but the leaders of today and tomorrow” - @phumzileunwomen @GenEgaliteFR was a chance to meaningfully include girls but reality fell short. Why this matters & what must be done:

[3/5] We have heard too little directly from adolescent girls themselves about their experiences, priorities, and solutions to drive toward #GenerationEquality. And too little about the gender inequalities and rights violations that occur during childhood, like child marriage.

[2/5] Many at the #GenerationEquality Forum, including Heads of State, noted how patriarchal norms & power dynamics keep us from achieving #genderequality. Power imbalances continue when processes do not account for gender AND age-related needs.
