@SaveOasis Private Member Sporting Asset of Community Value Bill never progressed & fell with last session of Parliament. However, its intent was incorp into Schedule 29 English Devolution & Community Empowerment Act 2026. Complicated by planning app permission but ACV now poss?
@gsum66 now you have control of @SwindonCouncil im eagerly looking forward to you making good on your announcement that you wish to take back the @SaveOasis leisure centre from seven capital and finally deliver the full like for like complex the heritage asset and town requires.
@AdverNewsAT We did contact her @SaveOasis met with her and she delivered nothing! She was standoffish and aggressively defended the leaders script,not a person who is approachable or indeed works for anyone other than her own career as shown by her comment here about wanting to keep her job!
@SaveOasis Accessible indoor facilities and community spaces are needed for the health and wellbeing of all.
Only a restored Oasis complete with these facilities will be viable.
@GLL_UK must insist @SevenCapital rebuilds like for like for a sustainable business.
@SwindonCouncil must listen.
@SaveOasis@jimrobbins started his bit talking about the operator agreement which was just announced... can't help but feel SevenCapital did this so he and @LabourSwindon would have something that sounded like a positive on The Oasis for their election campaign.
@SaveOasis 7capital continue to make fools of @LabourSwindon who continue to show total disdain for swindon and it's heritage assets. Enforcement action must be taken asap to get this site secure, watertight and then restored. Take it back into public ownership and apply for heritage grants
2/2 However, Seven Capital refused us to go inside, despite not being the legal owners. This is not the first time they have rejected community campaigners to legally inspect the condition and report back. If it wasn't for the public campaigning, the Oasis would be demolished.
Today, myself and another Oasis campaigner went to the Oasis. We were able to get ourselves added to the closure order to be able to legally enter the Oasis and inspect the inside. The policeman turned up, as did the security to facilitate this (who were both friendly). 1/2
Not news...this was known for ages that GLL were lined up to run Oasis again, as they run all the other Swindon Leisure sites. There are still doubts over housing plans and loss of indoor sports facilities. The GLL story has been regurgitated for a pre local election spin.
@SaveOasis GLL/Better were always going to get the contract. That was there quid pro quo for backing up SevenCapital's vision of an Oasis without a hall.
@SaveOasis Allowing the failed operator to have another shot at failing again isnt good business sense!
This isn't fresh news though, the operator was chosen over a year ago. Still waiting on a planning application for the rest of the site.
Any plans must include rebuilt indoor halls.
