@SAVEtoReuse In England, owners of listed buildings have a legal duty under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 to keep them in a reasonable state of repair. Deliberate neglect or allowing serious deterioration can be a criminal offence. @SevenCapital

We have applied to put the Oasis on the Heritage at Risk register this morning by working with @SAVEtoReuse. Let's see how that progresses. We need maintenance on the site now as it is grade II listed. SevenCapital and Swindon Borough Council both have a legal duty.

@mrcjstevens @neilrobinson_88 @SaveOasis Too high profile to be spent elsewhere I think but it has to be spent by March 2030 and with no private sector funding having materialised yet it could run out of time especially if Labour lose control of SBC.

@NeilPithouse @neilrobinson_88 @SaveOasis Given that this money isn't ring fenced id be surprised if any venue gets built after election season! That money will be absorbed by other needs no doubt!

@mrcjstevens @neilrobinson_88 @SaveOasis Venue is allegedly going to cost £45 million so SBC will have to find £25 million. 18 months ago it was going to cost £35 million although Jim Robbins claimed it could probably be done for £15 million. Funny that SBC always have money for their big projects but not for our Oasis.

@neilrobinson_88 @SaveOasis sbc are happy to borrow the rest of the £20m shortfall for a temporary structure but refused to borrow money to restore the Oasis themselves or indeed ring fence the £6m seven capital want to sell it back to them for once it's reopened,the hypocrisy is breathtaking and suspicious

@SaveOasis All this venue will do is replace what is already there, it isnt an additional facility nor does it replace the accessible indoor sports capacity at the oasis. it will still be the bare minimum requirement for a large town and doesn't address the lost sports venue at the oasis.

@1980sRewind @SaveOasis My Mrs (and I’m pretty sure my older cousins) used to go to Goldiggers. Someone I went to school with was an owner of Brunel in Swindon too. Unfortunately one of the last owners…. Used to swim in the Oasis, and was the first place I took my boy to swim, about 10 yrs ago.

So now Swindon has made the final shortlist for the next City of Culture, surely having a fully functioning leisure centre with indoor and outdoor facilities should be top of Jim Robbins Swindon Councils agenda (neither of whom I can tag) don't you agree @SaveOasis?
