#BREAKING: A new round of demolitions that will impact at least 1060 residences of monks and nuns has begun at Larung Gar -- one of the largest Tibetan Buddhist centers in the world -- in eastern Tibet in Serthar, a source with knowledge of the matter told ICT. ICT is concerned that this latest round of demolitions represents a further tightening in restrictions of religious practice and comes amid an escalation in China's coercive assimilation policies in Tibet after the new ethnic unity law went into effect on July 1. Since 2001, Chinese authorities have repeatedly targeted Larung Gar for demolitions, forcing monks, nuns, and lay practitioners to leave and destroying vast swaths of living quarters in an effort to severely reduce the size of the center. The latest round of demolitions began around July 13, 2026 and are being carried out at nighttime, the source told ICT. Read more: savetibet.org/famed-larung-g…

ICT extends our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of lifelong Tibet advocate and supporter Ms. Sigrid Joss-Arnd, who passed away recently. Joss-Arnd was a recipient of ICT’s 2013 Light of Truth Award in recognition of her organization’s (the Swiss Red Cross) critical assistance to Tibetans both in Tibet and in exile. We are profoundly grateful for her decades of compassion and dedication to the Tibetan people. Upon accepting the ICT’s Light of Truth award in 2013, she offered this blessing: “May His Holiness be blessed. May the Tibetans in Tibet be blessed. May the Tibetans in exile be blessed. And may they all be reunited soon.”

The International Campaign for Tibet extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Senator Lindsey Graham following his death. A friend of the Tibetan people, Senator Graham met with His Holiness the Dalai Lama as well as the elected Tibetan leadership and supported efforts to safeguard Tibet’s unique religious, cultural, and linguistic heritage. Senator Graham was also a voice for bipartisan action for Tibet, urging the US to oppose China's newly introduced "Ethnic Unity and Progress Law." Read more: savetibet.org/ict-expresses-…

We are deeply moved by the global outpouring of support and condolences following the tragic loss of Tibetan activist Lobga Rangzen, who died after self-immolating outside the UN Headquarters in New York on July 2, one day after China’s new ethnic unity law took effect. “Today, if I engage in an alarming activism, it is not because I do not have food, or clothes or out of sadness. I do it for the Tibetan nation,” Tibetan activist Lobga Rangzen emphasized in his final public message before he died after self-immolating outside the UN headquarters in New York on July 2. ICT mourns Lobga’s passing, which came a day after China forcibly enacted its new Ethnic Unity and Progress Law. His death marks the first Tibetan self-immolation on U.S. soil and the 170th known self-immolations by Tibetans inside Tibet and in exile. Tibetans around the world are condemning China's repressive new 'Ethnic Unity and Progress Law,' which went into effect today on July 1. In Washington D.C., at a protest organized by @DcTibetans, ICT President Tencho Gyatso termed the new law a dangerous escalation in the #Chinese government's efforts to erase the unique identities of Tibetans, Ugyhurs, Hong Kongers, Southern Mongolians and other non-Chinese nationalities.
