Only four percent of people win. Trying to get the system to sanction itself, however justified you might be and people usually are... Is like pissing in the wind 96% of the time. And still we try.

It can be incredibly difficult for an individual to prove discrimination & stressful to take an organisation to tribunal, most cases don't make it to to court. Meanwhile an independent review into @ace_national working culture raises many issues for global majority workers. (2/3)

Very disturbing & disappointing that Arts Council England @ace_national are seeking legal costs against @SpeechDebelle after a failed tribunal case regarding race discrimination. This will scare other workers from challenging discrimination at ACE and other powerful orgs. (1/2)

The cinema recently made the majority of its education, marketing and tech teams redundant, and has been doing public fundraising to keep the cinema open. 90K for an interim CEO 70K for a permanant CEO... 3/3

With Pride coming up, how do we address arts organisations who have either no or ineffective policy & procedures to address transphobia & homophobia, yet benefit financially and reputationally from "LGBTQ friendly" programming, both internally and through external hires?

We would like a little more public information about how Tyneside Cinema has now, as stated here, delivered on their commitment to change following the independent review in 2020. Theres not a lot of information here: tynesidecinema.co.uk/about-us/the-i…

any cinema manager heading out to Cannes (and seemingly bragging about it) while Front of House staff - who ARE your cinema - are looking at pay cuts and/or monthly hardships for the pleasure of working in a negative environment... it's not a good look

1/ The concerns raised in this report point to why we need an independent anti racist reporting body. We frequently hear reports that industry workers feel discriminated against and fear reporting it will ‘damage’ their careers.

"BFI Admits To Systemic Racism & Vows To Improve After Apologizing To ‘Four Lions’ Producer For Mishandling Discrimination Complaint" This is huge. The need for an independent antiracism complaints body is stronger than ever. @bectu @philippachilds @f_a_q deadline.com/2023/03/bfi-sy…

There's definitely a need for some critical thinking around cinema and funding deficits at the moment. It's easy to get swept up in nostalgia, but we need to focus on the future of how are cinemas are run right now.

@viva_victoria85 @tynesidecinema Hi Victoria, it is our understanding that the current CEO was a temporary role which was intended to last no longer than a year (it has been over 2 years), and that role was advertised at a considerably higher salary than what is being offered in the new role.

It doesn't seem to have been publicly announced by the organisation but Tyneside Cinema has lost it's National Portfolio Organisation #NPO status and was not successful in securing funding from Arts Council England's 2023-2026 investment programme.
