Military and political alliances among the Xhosa and the Khoe khoe peoples in the period 1652 to 1900 in the Cape Between 1652 and 1900, Xhosa and Khoekhoe peoples formed critical military and political alliances to resist Dutch and British expansion in the Cape, culminating in a "Xhosa-Khoe confederacy" during the 18th and 19th-century frontier wars. Key alliances involved joint raids and guerrilla warfare, with notable leaders like Khoi leader Jan Boesak fighting alongside Xhosa warriors against colonial forces. Early Resistance (17th–18th Century): Initial Khoekhoe, such as the Goringhaiqua, fought against Dutch encroachment, while mixed Khoe-Xhosa communities (Gonaqua) later joined forces with Xhosa chiefs to resist Boer expansion into the Zuurveld. The Xhosa-Khoe Confederacy: During the Nine Frontier Wars (1779–1879), the Xhosa and Khoe united against the Cape Colony, leveraging combined forces to defend territory. The Khoe brought expertise in mobility and guerrilla tactics to the alliance, often acting as a "secret weapon" alongside traditional Xhosa forces. Key Alliances and Figures: Nxele (Makhanda): A prominent prophet-leader born of a Xhosa father and Khoe mother, he led a 10,000-strong force (including Khoe fighters) against Grahamstown in 1819. Jan Boesak: A Khoe leader who commanded forces in alliance with the Xhosa. Collaborator Khoe: Colonial forces frequently used Khoekhoe militia ("collaborators") to combat Xhosa-Khoe allied forces. Political Shifts: While many Khoekhoe were absorbed as farm laborers or aligned with the British as soldiers, substantial numbers joined the Xhosa, particularly during the 1790s, strengthening the resistance against colonial dispossession. These alliances were essential in fighting 19 wars (including nine major Frontier Wars) in the Eastern Cape over 227 years.

French judge Nicolas Gouyou, who issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu at the ICC: • Visa and Mastercard have blocked all my cards • I cannot make any purchases • I am a judge, yet treated like a criminal • Judges, lawyers, and politicians are being intimidated • A colleague told me my name won’t be removed from the blacklist until Trump’s term ends • Despite intervention by the French president, U.S. authorities have not responded
