Taxi Driver Found Guilty Of Sexually Assaulting Schoolgirl In Glasgow. A private hire taxi driver has been convicted of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old schoolgirl after pulling into a secluded supermarket car park while driving her home in the early hours of the morning in Glasgow. Farrukh Naseem Butt, from East Kilbride in Glasgow, groped the child's thigh, forced a kiss with his tongue in her mouth, and then slid his hand into her jogging bottoms, all while she repeatedly told him to stop. The vile and predatory incident happened on 16 February 2025, just days after the girl had obtained Butt's number following an earlier booking. The court heard the girl had been at a friend's house in Edinburgh and texted Butt around 4.30am to take her home to Midlothian. He told her to sit in the front passenger seat beside him. During the journey, Butt, who had been a private hire driver for 18 years claimed he needed to stop for a cigarette or, in his later account, because his car was overheating. He pulled into the quiet Sainsbury's car park near Hillend. There, in the darkness, the nightmare began. The girl told Edinburgh Sheriff Court: "He kissed me on the cheek and then snogged me. He put his tongue in my mouth. I told him to stop. I didn't feel comfortable." Butt didn't stop. He continued, slipping his hand down the front of her jogging pants and touching her intimately under her clothing. The teenager, traumatised by the ordeal confided in a 16-year-old friend the next day. That friend later testified the victim seemed traumatised and worried, was scared to leave the house, didn't want to tell her mum, and now doesn't go out in the dark and stays close to home. Butt, who denied everything, spun a different story in the witness box. He claimed the girl moved into the front seat herself because it was more comfortable while he was supposedly adding water to his overheating engine. He insisted: "I never touched her, it never happened like that." The jury at Edinburgh Sheriff Court rejected his account. After a two-day trial, they returned a majority guilty verdict on Thursday, 11 June 2026. Sheriff Douglas Keir described the offence as a very serious matter and warned Butt that all sentencing options are open, a clear signal that a custodial sentence is very much on the table. Sentence was deferred until July for background reports, and Butt has been placed on the sex offenders register on an interim basis. #UKNews #CrimeNews #Glasgow #Scotland
