It’s funny when people say authors are “gatekeeping” yet every time I make a post on main, my comments are filled with cute people assuming I’m a newbie and they need to break things down for me.

How many books have you written and published in your lifetime?

In the past 5 weeks, I've written 157k words. That's almost two complete novels. I'll finish the 2nd tomorrow. My eyes are dying, & I think my brain is on the verge of short-circuiting. I'm happy to report I'll be taking the rest of the year off from ghostwriting after this.

Hopefully I’ll hit 10k this week, maybe I won’t, but I need to start cutting myself some slack when I don’t make my preferred 20k.

It’s been a rough week for writing between my husband having surgery and my eldest’s birthday, BUT I’m still at 6800 words.
I’m going to try and write another chapter while I watch the Oilers play, and then I have tomorrow as well.

This is amazing advice! Whenever I’m writing and feel like the book isn’t working, chances are this is why. GMC and what’s at stake really make up the bones and meat of your book.

Cannot emphasize enough: what I’m looking for in queries are *stakes*. Why is this happening? What if it goes off the rails? Why care? What’s at risk? Everyone’s queries have themes. Themes alone don’t sell agents, editors, publishers, or the reading public. 1/2

self pub is legit and an amazing option for many people who want complete control of their work, their voice, their pub date, their cover.
i work in trad as a lit agent and trad pubbed author; but i always speak up for indie pub ( many of my clients are hybrid authors :) )

So, after sending what I believed would be my final query in June of 2024, I decided to query two agents who recently expressed interest in my romcom. One of them now has my full. The other has my partial. Didn't have that on my Friday bingo card, but here we are. 😂

being against ai means that you should avoid ai content in all forms, including generated images or gifs. just because you didn't generate it doesn't mean its ok to use! sharing ai is promoting it.

@rachkmc As a self pubbed (soon to be hybrid) bestseller, I totally agree! I love that authors have so many options these days and always love seeing trad pub people validating both paths. It’s part of the reason I redownloaded this app haha
