😃 🎓 It's official! Excited to share that my first PhD student @FaisalHamman has successfully defended his thesis "Trustworthy and Explainable Machine Learning Using Information-Theoretic Methods" 🎉 🥳 We thank all committee members for their constant support and guidance: Profs. Sennur Ulukus, Furong Huang, Dinesh Manocha, Tudor Dumitras During his time at UMD, Faisal has received several awards: ➡️ ECE Distinguished Dissertation Award ➡️ Clark School Dean’s Research Award (3rd) ➡️ Ann Wylie Dissertation Fellowship ➡️ George Corcoran Memorial Award Faisal's research has been published at top-tier AI venues #NeurIPS #ICML #ICLR #FAccT as well as top-tier Information Theory venues #ISIT #JSAIT Congratulations and best wishes to DR. Faisal Hamman as he embarks on his new adventures!! 👍 👍 #ProudAdvisorMoment #PhDDefense #NewDoctor #FirstPhDStudent

I successfully defended my Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at @UofMaryland !🎓✨ I started this PhD at 20, with a lot of curiosity and honestly very little idea of what I had signed up for then.

@bhavaytyagi Not as important as these 2 - but Berry-Robnik is also important for systems which have a well-defined semi-classical limit

Berry-Tabor (BT) and Bohigas-Giannoni-Schmit (BGS) are one of most powerful conjectures. Are there any other guiding principles to probe signatures of Chaos?

@ydnad0 The worst part (at least in German airports) is that there is no source of free water :/

Begging everyone who hasn't already to read this book. Clarke ventures deep into the dark roots of fantasy, and the result is a book that's both a sublime work of historical fiction and hypnotically eerie in its otherworldliness. Arguably the best novel of the century thus far.

@Kaju_Nut I think it’s worth spending a lecture. Some of the interpretations are very thought-provoking and I feel everyone should be exposed to them. It can be a part of the QM course which covers some of the foundational issues (EPR, Wigner’s Friend etc.)

Should interpretations of quantum mechanics be a part of any quantum mechanics course? How long should the instructor spend on interpretations? Never mention their existence, briefly mention them or spend a lecture or more?

We believe that our work opens a new route to evade Floquet heating and control entanglement generation in collective spin systems.

We demonstrate that that CD driving provides a powerful tool for steering collective spin systems along entangled trajectories for a long time. This leads to dynamical stroboscopic freezing and eternal entanglement oscillations for a large class of initial states.
