I was rooting for France today but I'll probably be rooting for Spain on Sunday against either team that could come out of the other side of the bracket Hopefully I don't curse Spain too lmao

Spain's defense is wonderful Bizarre that Belgium of all teams was the only team that broke through against them

France players have more talent on paper but Spain is a much more cohesive unit Michael Olise and Ousmane Dembele have spent this entire game turning the ball over by passing behind each other The Spanish players always know where their teammates are going to be

@SayomGD @Acejnr9 They’ve toyed with something close to your idea for shootouts i think in the MLS and it just didn’t stick. idk if there’s a happy medium bc you’re describing changing the game to alleviate the impact of silly fouls

I still hate the penalty rule that any foul in the box is a penalty Neither player had possession and there was no imminent shooting threat, but any foul there essentially gifts Spain a goal Loser rule I'm afraid

@gattacajant @Acejnr9 I think there's a happy medium where you can make it less punishing while still being objective Maybe penalties in the regular run of play should be taken further away than penalties during shootouts Then you can still award penalties but its not a 75% chance to score

@SayomGD @Acejnr9 it would create a lot more situations where situations can be interpreted differently since few plays in soccer present themselves the same way. you’d incentivise teams by being able to foul in the box without conceding a penalty

@gattacajant @Acejnr9 I think no matter what you do here people are going to get angry Maybe you can keep the penalty and move the spot back to make the shot harder lol Otherwise you're awarding a team ~0.75 goals for any foul in the box

@gattacajant @Acejnr9 That's a good question I def like having more objective rules because subjective stuff just introduces controversy But I also think it's way too punitive to award a penalty when there isn't a clear goal scoring chance being obstructed

Bro this @adidas World Cup final ball makes no sense. Is it cities or states?? If they weren’t cowards, the ball would have these cities Miami Atlanta Dallas East Rutherford

If France subs on Doue and Kone for Rabiot and Tchouameni they'll win this thing 3-2

@Sageof6turtles It was def a penalty by the rule, but I dislike the rule itself Yamal didn't have possession of the ball and there was no imminent shooting threat Any foul in the box being a penalty is too punitive It's my biggest problem with soccer as a sport tbh
