The Erebus disaster occurred on 28 November 1979 when Air New Zealand Flight 901 flew, at 404km/h, into the flank of Mount Erebus on Ross Island, Antarctica, killing all 237 passengers and 20 crew on board. The Royal Commission into the disaster produced the phrase ‘an orchestrated litany of lies’.

The 1972 Iran blizzard is the deadliest blizzard in recorded history. Over 4000 people were killed by cold temperatures and snowstorms that lasted for over a week, preceded by a 4 year drought. Southern Iran was worst hit, receiving over 26 feet of snow.

The Black Saturday bushfires of Feb 2009 that devastated Victoria, Australia. 173 people were killed, including 7 in fire bunkers that didn’t hold up, any many fleeing in vehicles when it was too late. A new fire danger rating ‘catastrophic’ was added to the rating system in the aftermath.

In 2015, Glenna Duram shot and killed her husband before attempting suicide. Soon after, the couple's pet parrot, the only witness to the crime, started repeating the words "don't shoot" It is thought to have been the pair's last exchange. Duram survived and was found guilty of first degree murder.

Maurice Tillet was a Russian-born French professional wrestler who became famous for his unusual appearance.
He had a normal face as a child, but developed acromegaly in his twenties, which caused his bones to grow and thicken. He studied law, but felt he could not succeed due to his voice and looks. He joined the French Navy as an engineer, and later met a wrestler who convinced him to enter the business.
Maurice Tillet moved to the US in 1939 and became a star as The French Angel. He was twice World Heavyweight Champion and inspired many imitators.
Some people believe that Tillet was the inspiration for the character Shrek, the green ogre from the animated movies. Though this claim has not been officially verified, the resemblance between Tillet and Shrek is striking.
