@FrozenApplejuic The top players themselves aren’t exactly frequent streamers, and the demographic for them are already existing members of the competitive scene. It’s self sustaining, but isn’t quite as accessible to the rest of the crowd.

But I do have to wonder if comp’s lack of popularity comes from just a general lack of interest, or lack of coverage and exposure.
Most western top players aren’t exactly household names in the general community.

@FrozenApplejuic Definitely in recent cases at least, like with the live stream.
Probably was expecting something akin to a Pokemon presents for the newer and younger crowd.

@SchoellScrub I think part of this is how much the international fanbase has grown, and the newer people are used to how other franchises handle releases and such, and expect that or more from puyo just setting themselves up for dissapointment.

No other puzzle game franchise receives nearly the same amount of official support as Puyo Puyo or the Enhance Puzzle Games.

@MikeTheMcer Just to clear it up, I don’t mean Puyo is past its prime. I’m just saying the strict puzzle game genre (so games like Tetris, Panel de Pon, Dr. Mario, Puzzle fighter, etc.) has *mostly fallen out of style and popularity from the older console generations and handhelds.

I don't wanna get too deep into the whole thing, and while I definitely wouldn't say sega (the higher ups) are sabotaging it, I don't understand what you mean by "Long past its prime"... and I don't agree that's it's surprisingly decent, I think it's just ok.

I’m getting so tired of the narrative that “Sega hates/is sabotaging Puyo Puyo”, when honestly for a niche series in a genre long past its prime… it still gets a surprisingly decent amount of support? Really beginning to think the fan base is just ungrateful.

The last 4 minutes of Hoyosomada’s paraphrased speech is something every Puyo fan NEEDS to hear.
It’s an honest look into the actual state of Puyo as a corporate franchise, but also shows just how much the developers are passionate and how they actually listen.

@PinkGeekNeni I guess fairs fair, but I do want to experiment with event hosting myself, see what I can be gotten out of these games already.
Also been doing the odd job for the comp community every now and again.

@PinkGeekNeni Twitter is good for buzz, but a TERRIBLE platform for nuance and discussion because of its short form focus.
I ruffled some feathers last night and it’s kinda amazing how what I said was taken as “You can’t ever be critical of product, consume”. When I argued the opposite ._.

I don't think we should let toxic social Media tendencies push us out of fandom culture. Instead we should try to establish Netiquette again. That's something that's seriously gotten lost since social media has killed forum culture.

@SchoellScrub I think rather than letting these people push us out of the fanbase, we should make our own spaces where doomposting isn't welcome. There's plenty of fans who want that after all.

@PinkGeekNeni I’ve been around the block on that one, can’t go 2 seconds without seeing something like a “Nintendo is cooked” if hyper specific demands are not met.
I legit can’t comprehend how some will look at Puyo Puyo Tetris, and say it was nothing but catastrophic for the series.

People have a serious issue distinguishing between "thing failure" and "thing not for me".

@Giihzinhapera To me, it honestly seems like there’s more corporate politics involved. Making the games cheap by reusing assets and code, don’t making big risks and investments, play it safe.
That’s honestly the pattern it feels to me with PPT2 + S, Quest, and PPPP. Sega’s still a company :P

@SchoellScrub I think Sega is still trying to find it's way with Puyo, and like I've seen a lot of different ppl saying, if we support the franchise, they will see there is faith in this game
Well, now it's different times,it's being translated to english and there's a lot more of fans for it

@Giihzinhapera Puyo does get a decent amount of external media and support, largely in Japan still, but support nonetheless.
I think in the hands of another company, 20th or Chronicle would have probably have been the final entry in the series or something from its commercial failure.

While Puyo is having new games (technically, even if it isn't a "new" one or for all plataforms) and it's a kinda small franchise, I'm waiting for a new Crash game that isn't getting nothing and it's a big franchise lmao

@mrusu_jp I do wonder how much though the games need to be refreshed? With the latest games they’ve been adding some nice QoL updates but rarely something big.
If new stuff comes out with little new or worthwhile, is it really healthy for the series?
My thoughts on the matter at least.

@SchoellScrub You can only do so much with puzzle games before the need for new entries dies. Eventually you settle on a 'definitive' version of the game. In this case, PPT and its sequel, or eSports. I haven't played the game competitively since last year, but I know I hated seeing PPT2S lol

@tabbylemons Doing the absolute bare minimum is honestly pretty insulting as a marketing tactic.
Best thing to really do is vote if your wallet, if they don’t respect their fans with their Puyo treatment in that game, you don’t have to respect them. That or give feedback pretty much.

@SchoellScrub for me, its less that a puyo rep was not included and moreso that they expected people who want you to do more with a series they hide from people outside asia, to pay 70 dollars for a digital car decal of a single character if you never owned this game before.

@tabbylemons They felt that, Arle in Crossworlds would actually bring in a significant amount more sales to the game than other more popular characters in the west.
It’s silly that they wouldn’t go for the effort to include their own legacy characters, but I kinda get it to some extent.

@tabbylemons The Puyo team itself actually has so much passion and talent behind it, and I personally think the series gets locked behind corporate politics most of the time.
I think Sega wants to chase whatever avenue they have to make something profitable, and I don’t think… [1/2]
