The most enriching part of the Advanced Social Media course, for me, were the interactive projects that truly demonstrated relevant and modern concepts within social media (AKA creating a YouTube video in hopes that it goes viral!)

Izzy has prepared me for the job market by informing me about algorithms used to view resumes on sites like LinkedIn and Indeed. Never thought I might have more luck finding a job on Craigslist!

To me, it makes sense that hubs form in social network. Based on people's different interests, they gravitate toward the same people within a given social network!

I think #hubs definitely exist within my own social network. For example, the majority of my Instagram followers and likers are my sorority sisters, and the majority of my Twitter following/those that I follow are professional marketers

People on opposite ends of the #digitaldivide experience social networks differently & people on the lower-access end of the #digitaldivide are likely harder to gather data on, less involved in the network, yet somehow easier to persuade

The @facebook incident has certainly eroded my trust in the network (and other social networks for that matter), but in a way I am unsurprised because I was well aware that my data was being collected - just not to what extent.

Zuckerberg losing control? It's difficult to say, but I think that a PR disaster of this magnitude is near impossible to recover from. Facebook will likely retain millions of users, but this event will be etched in people's minds forever

In terms of profit, I'm sure Facebook will be just fine. Instagram and WhatsApp generate more than enough revenue to keep them afloat. In terms of their reputation, I'm not so sure...

Plant Biology grad student out of nowhere, making all the sense in the world: "This has happened in the courts over and over again so why are we here? There is no standing for this and we know that." #4120sec101 @kareneriggs @alex_lumley1994

"You will not have anyone else come through these doors at the rate that things are changing. Students are not silent." If this policy stands, we could lose the one thing that keeps this place alive: the students. #4120sec101 @kareneriggs @alex_lumley1994

Speakers are now calling on the advisory group to come forward, and ultimately trash the unconstitutional policy -- in other words, not have a policy on free speech. Since that's counterintuitive #4120sec101 @kareneriggs @alex_lumley1994

Student speaker points out that not a single member of the Bobcat 70 or activist of any kind is on the committee to revise the Freedom of Expression Policy. Seems like a fundamental flaw #4120sec101 @kareneriggs @alex_lumley1994
