It’s Getting Fuzzy! Bad news usually drops on a Friday. Here, an additional 678 retractions from the Journal of Intelligent and Fuzzy Systems were published on Thursday, April 17th, and reported by @RetractionWatch , just before a holiday weekend in many parts of the world. 🧵

@JeroenBaas Our API’s are available for ScholarOne, Editorial Manager, or anyone at the submission stage. We are API first and built to be a tool to help solve this problem for the industry.

I could see a role for submission systems for early flagging (submission stage), but it would be even more challenging to do this at submission stage: often authors and references are not linked yet. This would require platform capabilities for potential databases to participate.

Have some mixed success replicating the score; what stood out was that more often than not, the [author] data was off: found authors with retractions in Scopus, not visible in Argos, missing DOIs etc. Enhancing data quality will be key. Also some weird inconsistencies:

This article (buff.ly/4eO49kB) is interesting as it gives stats about the number of retractions, and how it is growing. The articles focuses on Hindawi, due to the 8,000+ retractions they had in 2023. But this is a news article (so, we assume not peer reviewed). Is anytbody aware of a peer reviewed paper that provides (recent) stats on retractions? We have tried to search but if you use the word retraction, it just brings up loads of retracted papers.
