A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Saturday afternoon across southwest Kansas due to low humidity and windy conditions. Fires can quickly escape control and be difficult to manage. Please avoid all outdoor burning! #kswx

A Fire Weather Watch has been issued from 1pm-8pm on Saturday.

And so the trend continues...

SCFD has responded to four fires in less than a week. Two associated with burn barrel escapes, and the other two likely caused by mechanical failures on vehicles traveling along U.S. 83. We need everyone's help preventing fires right now. Please help us help you.

This will, unfortunately, extend our fire danger until we get some meaningful moisture to help with "green up".

Winds are currently blowing out of the north at around 30-35 mph with gusts between 40-50 mph. Winds will decrease sharply after sunset with winds forecast at a much calmer 10-20 mph by around midnight. #kswx

A Red Flag Warning will be in effect from noon to 9pm on Saturday. While the wind isn't forecast to be terribly strong tomorrow, the low relative humidity and warmer temperatures will elevate fire weather conditions.
