Robert Redford has died at 89 years old. The film icon starred in classic movies such as "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" and "All the President's Men," won an Oscar for directing “Ordinary People” and founded the Sundance Film Institute. variety.com/2025/film/news…

This has to be a joke, right? The cinema with the worst projection standards I’ve ever seen that renders onscreen text unreadable, projected on warped screens, that barely shows smaller films, and has a gents toilets that has smelled like a zoo for the past couple of years?

It was Ralph's birthday yesterday - he was 12! He spent his day at home with his owner, but today he's with my parents for more celebrations 🐾🎉

@PhilipProudfoot @ObserverUK What's there to apologise for? I consider myself a left-leaning centrist, and I found it pretty funny. Not fall down laughing hilarious, but certainly amusing. I didn't see anything offensive or particularly insulting about it. Evidently though I'm in the few (not the many).

Re: Odyssey tickets I just don’t think it’s a good idea to treat movies like concerts. If this becomes a regular thing, people are going to buy and flip tickets like crazy. The movies should be for everyone, not freaks and opportunists.

@HunkyKubrick @NielsAnderzen @BBFC To give you an idea of where their priorities lie these days, their new website has a section called "Managing Your Child's First Phone".

@HunkyKubrick @NielsAnderzen @BBFC The BBFC are now as much a parenting resource group as they are a film classification board - "View what's right for you" is firmly within the context of helping children and parents decide what's appropriate, rather than the BBFC positioning themselves as moral arbiters.

The BBFC have redesigned their website, removing yet more useful material (most of the case studies have gone). It seems you can no longer access the recent decisions page unless you already know the URL - bookmark this: bbfc.co.uk/recently-rated

@FB_BMB I haven't seen either of these films, although I got the trailer for this one before The Surfer and thought it looked to be aimed at a very young audience, like 11/12 year olds. The BBFC should use films like this and Five Nights At Freddy's in their next public consultation.

Trailers (came in late): Together, The Conjuring: Last Rites, The Naked Gun, Weapons, Black Phone 2 Epilepsy warning: Quite a few instances of flashing images, particularly an electric blaster fired directly at camera. So much tamer than the first, it could almost be 12A.

M3GAN 2.0: The killer doll returns to battle an even meaner robot in this messy, odd sequel, that does a T2 genre switch from horror to action-comedy and playing up the camp value. Full of James Cameron homages, it's almost nothing like the first and best viewed on it's own terms

I was genuinely unsure whether I'd ever post on here again, but everyone's doing this and I don't like to feel left out.

@tuttle2024 @BBFC Fantasy/comic context. Also a 15A in Ireland. To give this the same cert as Terrifier and Cannibal Holocaust would be laughable.

@BBFC Please tell me how the removal of a person's entrails in Death of A Unicorn means it's suitable as a 15 certificate?

@ioscine I'm pretty sure it's been cancelled now. It disappeared from the UK release schedule over a month ago, and since then the distributor has set dates for a number of their other upcoming films. They've also removed everything related to it from their socials. @EFDFilms

@FB_BMB 18 in Ireland too, which is pretty rare now - The Substance was only a 16 (which I think was fine). And perhaps not something I should ask on a public account, but, erm, is Thea Sofie Loch Naess nude in this?

@ScottDanBates There's a close-up of an erection during a sex scene that probably got it an instant 18. I actually felt it sat in the borderline much of the time, but the emphasis on physical damage - particularly the toes scene - means it is the right call.

The Ugly Stepsister: Lea Myren goes to extremes to change herself to win her Prince in this darkly comic Norweigan horror retelling of Cinderella from a different point of view. Almost a companion piece to The Substance in its attack on beauty standards and gross-out body horror.

@lacewatchfilms @eddbot It's showing widely elsewhere. I imagine there's been a dispute between Odeon and the distributor, as happened with The Zone Of Interest, Dream Scenario and Bottoms.

@eddbot I wouldn’t be so surprised if they do that considering Odeon show literally anything but I’d imagine it being a limited release

@BilgeEbiri The only way I know what's coming out, without directly looking at my local cinema's app, is when my copy of Sight And Sound arrives. And some of those have been and gone by the time it gets here.
