@AJWVictoriaBC @glennbeck My god! How far Andrew weaver has fallen. Even if true she could have said no. But Andrew wants to shut down choices for all other Canadians.

Carney asked Tuesday why gas prices have soared to $2 per litre when Canada produces lots of oil domestically. In other words, why do gas prices in Canada reflect global price of oil? Doesn't really answer but stock response I suppose would be that if we set price controls on oil, it would damage investment in the oil patch.

@anneapplebaum Vance is america’s Orban. One of the most unappealing characters in American politics who will give out insider contracts in exchange for support. Ie TikTok given to his tech supporters for 1/4th the price.

In honor of Vance's visit to Hungary, where he will campaign for Viktor Orban, I am reposting this article: Orban's Hungary is one of the poorest countries, and certainly the most corrupt and least free country, in the EU. Vance wants this for America? theatlantic.com/magazine/archi…

@StinkyMolly1 @SimonMahan My mistake.Estimate vary from 1-4 years though silicon refining is getting more efficient all the time. What is the embodied energy payback on a natural gas electrical plant and the pipelines, LNG,etc can’t speak to the slave labor thing but I suppose your kitchen utensils have it

@ScottGLiisco @SimonMahan Absolutely not true. Excluding the SLAVE LABOR, all the energy it costs to manufacture, structures to secure, maintain, and most of all, dispose of, far outweighs any savings. This is why Govs need to subsidize this commie crap.

One average solar panel produces ~20 MWh over its life. That’s roughly equivalent to: ~30 barrels of oil ~8 tons of coal ~130,000 cubic feet of natural gas Just different ways of delivering the same energy.

@EnviWood @SimonMahan Battery costs have come down as fast as solar panels and vpp’s can now share power over larger networks and growing all the time.

@SimonMahan Useful framing. Though dispatchability matters too. That panel needs storage or backup to match what the fossil equivalents deliver on demand.

@StinkyMolly1 @SimonMahan The embodied energy (burning coal to manufacture) is less than a year and a solar panel lasts well over 30 years.

@SimonMahan Ridiculous. Like comparing a modern sailboat to a modern ocean liner. Both can cross the ocean, but only crazy people attempt to run a shipping business with the former.

@wingod @SimonMahan In Seattle 1kW produces an average of 1,100 kWh per year. Therefore 400 watts would produce 440 kWh per year. X 30 = 13,200 kWh (and this is rainy Seattle) Your calculation seems to be off. Also you capitalize the W not the k. Are my calculations incorrect?

@SimonMahan Hmm... 300 watts, capacity factor average of 0.2. that is 60 w/h/day average. Over one year that is 21,900 watt hours or 21.9 kilowatt hours. 21.9 x 30 =657 Kw/hr. So you are about a factor of 30 off in your calculation. In the desert, you double that to 0.4 or 1.3Mw/hr.

Canada keeps voting for left wing governments. Alberta keeps voting for freedom, enterprise, energy, and less government. We do not share the same values, and Alberta should not have its future dictated by a country that keeps electing governments hostile to Alberta.

Hybrid cars work by capturing energy that would otherwise be wasted. Yes, they cost more upfront, but with a generator, inverter, and battery, they reduce fuel costs. This is a pretty good analogy for the power grid system and adding renewables. Gas, coal, nukes fill in the gap

@SimonMahan Good analogy. But it works both ways. A hybrid still needs the engine. The grid still needs dispatchable generation to keep frequency and voltage stable. Renewables reduce fuel burn, but they cannot run the system alone.

@MichaelLaRosaDC @SykesCharlie @WalshFreedom Poor Tim. Trump can run around and pick up any trash to clear the hurdle of enough voters to functionally destroy the lives of most Americans and Tim tries to propose a way to get enough voters so this misery can end and gets ratio’d by his own side (lead by Charlie Sykes???)

Darn it. I logged on here to grab a link real quick and I saw this @Timodc “teaser,” and I got so ticked off, I have to quickly break my Good Friday social media fast to respond. Tim, I’m not talking about CANCELLING Hasan Piker. He can say & do whatever he wants. I’m talking about CONDEMNING him. Loudly. Repeatedly. And if we can’t condemn an America-hating, Jew-hating Communist, then there’s no one to condemn. And Tim, wtf, you say the “whole country is moving Piker’s way on Israel & America,” so we all just gotta embrace his - antisemitic, America-hate, Communist dictator-love, Jew-hate - viewpoint becuz we’re all part of a pro-democracy big tent? Look, I’m all about a big tent. That’s part of why I became a Dem. But fuck a big tent with an antisemitic, America-blaming bigot like that. I don’t want in that tent. Just like if I were still a Republican, I wouldn’t want in a tent with Nick Fuentes, Candace Owens, or Tucker Carlson. Dang Tim. And if as you intimate the whole country is becoming anti-Israel, so we should too? Fuck that. So if the whole country was becoming pro-Putin, we should too? Bcuz that’s where the voters are? Fuck that. The @BulwarkOnline needs to do some real soul-searching. Quickly. I mean, what the heck do you even stand for anymore at The Bulwark? You’d lock arms with Piker to defend democracy? Would you lock arms with Candace Owens to defend democracy? Ok. Back to my Good Friday fast.

Europe is on a path to destroying itself. Unchecked immigration of millions of immigrants that burden their welfare states, bring violence and terrorism to their shores, and take over local governance, one city at a time. Anti-capitalist policies that make it difficult for businesses to adapt their workforces to a rapidly changing competitive environment now accelerating due to AI. A business environment and tax regime that is antithetical to startups. The absence of any progress or innovation in AI and limited access to the compute necessary to compete. Energy dependence due to the green movement at a moment when energy demands are rapidly increasing. And now, the abandonment of the U.S. when we have asked for limited assistance — base access and flyover rights — in the midst of our efforts to eliminate Iran’s nuclear and ballistic threat which is already within striking range of Europe, after we have invested nearly $200 billion in helping Ukraine. NATO is about to be toast. Europe’s defense burden is about to rise massively while their economies continue to fall further and further behind. In short, Europe needs to wake up before it is too late, and it may very well be too late.
Bill Ackman@BillAckman

An important read on Europe and NATO.
