🇯🇵 A tourist from New York was captured spray painting graffiti in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo. This type of behavior should get you immediately deported from Japan.

@ScottGardner71 It’s deterrence. It’s not like they’re going to try anything. But it’s an extremely dangerous situation and ask yourself what happens if and when they call Trump’s bluff. My money is he backs down again and looks weak. But the alternative is probably worse.

A full scale defensive intervention by #China in #Iran is not outside the realm of possibility at this point. No idea if there are indicators of that but China isn’t interested in being spectators while the US cuts off another source of energy like #Venezuela

Now that the sexual predator is out of the California governor race I'm glad there's more of a path to victory for the woman who dumped scalding potatoes on her husband and verbally abuses staffers and journalists.

@birdyluisa @MattGlassman312 Grant’s greatness, kindness, magnanimity, and strategic brilliance are lost on most modern amateur historians. Truly a great American.

@MattGlassman312 He came to regret much about his kindnessses to Lee during the violent aftermath of Reconstruction. It's hard to read this and see how Grant thought he was setting the South on a path of genuine rehabilitation.

There is no doubt in my mind that the best writings of any U.S. President are Grant's memoirs, and his recollections of Lee's surrender in Appomattox---161 year ago this today---are perhaps the best parts of those memoirs.

For this hypothetical American Triumphal Arch there appears to be spots for two statues of great figures from American history. Who should they be?

@MericaCulture Lee broke his oath and took up arms against his nation. He was a person from the planter class who fought for the worst cause in American history. I would not want anyone to emulate him.

🇺🇸 The American Culturist 🇺🇸
Grant and Lee are two of my favorite Americans for very different reasons. Robert E. Lee, perhaps more than any other American not named George Washington, was the epitome of nobility, exhibiting transcendent virtue and character. Lee is someone to tell your kids to model themselves after. Ulysses S. Grant, a much more flawed man, answered the call of his nation. He rose from obscurity while battling alcoholism. I don’t condemn him for having demons, I admire him for rising above them. Grant is someone to look to when you falter in your own life, remembering that even great men struggle from time to time.

Today in American History: 1865 Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia (about 26,765 troops) to Union Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House, Virginia. This effectively ended the American Civil War in the Eastern Theater after four years of fighting. The generous terms set by Grant helped begin the process of national reconciliation.

@enjoyer_liberty No. No he is not. He took up arms against his country. He’s lucky Grant and Lincoln were magnanimous.

@Realeurofag2 @0hour1 Yes. The French fought well in most conflicts before that - ask the English. Where did William the Conqueror come from? I mean Caesar conquered the Gauls but that was more than 2000 years ago.

Today in 1865 General Lee surrenders. I don’t see this flag as racist, I hate racism. I see it as Southern Pride.

@0hour1 This would lead you to believe that they are less cowardly than having the unlucky circumstance of being next to a cunning and capable neighbor. They took literally million of casualties. I would agree with bravery, but poorly led. Remember Napoleon…

@0hour1 Ok. I’m as American and Republican as the next guy. But, let’s put some historical context here. Prussians kicked their asses in 1870, ultimately capturing Paris. The French took the brunt of WW1 and proved brave warriors. WW2, they got their asses kicked after being outsmarted.
