@stevenmartini I think the question is not "Are screenwriters better off, today, than we were before the strike?" It's "Are screenwriters better off, today, than we would be if we had not had the strike?" Difficult to say without a counterfactual.

I read this script in January 2019.
A friend “slipped it under the table,” as they say.
In a random general meeting years ago, a friend mentioned having worked with the editor of ROCKY — and told stories of the astonishment at what was coming through in the dailies.
A tiny movie no one thought had a chance became one of the GOATs.
I PLAY ROCKY was a gripping page-turner with an incredible role at its center.
It required an actor to channel their inner Stallone, and a director to revisit one of the most revered film sets in Hollywood history.
It takes years for a script to come to life, and I’m thrilled the town recognized the talent in this one.
Kudos to all involved.
Long live the movies.

The first trailer for ‘I PLAY ROCKY’ has been released. The film follows a young Sylvester Stallone & the dramatic journey it took to get ‘ROCKY’ made. In theaters on November 20.

It actually surprises me that this doesn't happen more often. Studios have a lot of killer scripts in their archives that never got made for reasons that have nothing to do with quality. They should do more exploring of what they already own.

@Coops_Kino Awards are mostly nonsense, but sometimes they can help bring attention to an otherwise under-appreciated film. And it's fun to see good films get celebrated. Anything that helps bring public attention to movies is a good thing.

Wesfest at the Bowl was a total fever dream. Jackson Browne doing the Nico songs, Goldblum leading his band on Blinuet, Devo playing Gut Feeling, Britt Daniel doing Making Time, Jenny Lewis and Beck and Murray and Schwartzman bopping in and out like kids’ show hosts. Magical

In 1996 when Jamiroquai filmed their VIRTUAL INSANITY music video, lead singer Jay Kay had literally no idea in which direction the floor would shift, improvising every single one of his dance moves to coincide the set. In fact, it wasn't the floor at all moving, but rather the set walls shifting in all directions with furniture locked in place and released at random times to only give the feeling that the floor was shifting.
The music video went on to win the MTV Music Video Award for Breakthrough Video, Best Special Effects, Best Cinematography, and Video of the Year - and considered to be one of the greatest music videos of all time.
