@MikeMeehallWood Not sure if the NRL deserves to be compared to the EPL or Coles for that matter (or what the point of the comparison is). the NRL compared to 25 years ago is flying. Super league compared to 25 years ago is going backwards. if super league thinks it can go it alone, do it.

On the occasion of Andrew Abdo's departure, and people telling me how great he will leave the NRL's financial position, it's worth going into the economies of scale. The NRL has the same revenue as all the Coles on the Northern Beaches. Meanwhile, Super League's competitor...

@SteveMascord It really wasn't post 1950 more so after poker machines league players moved to Sydney. Wally Prigg played 19 times for Australia and only ever played in Newcastle comp 1927-39.

As a Wollongong person whose grandfather played in the first competition in 1911 (winning two Premiershjips in '11 and '12 when he switched clubs), I believe all Premiership expansion areas deserve equal historical recognition ... eventually. Just going 'Brisbane' is expedient.
Tim@TimothyJ_23

@SteveMascord What are "all senior competitions" and by whose definition? Is it just NSWRL/ARL/SL/NRL 1908 to now, plus BRL 1909 to 1994?

@simonhill1894 @NickStoll Alf Quill and Reg Date both playing for Wallsend at same time. Saying that my grandfather used to was lyrical about Reg. Never heard mention of Alf Quil

@MaxMckinney This is the Sydney / Brisbane centric NRL . Newcastle is an afterthought. Maybe the local newspaper should campaign for a stadium upgrade to fit in the Hunter Park Precinct. Newcastle would be perfect for magic round when all that is place

@adampeacock3 Melbourne is a strange place. when an EPL team visits they can't get them to the MCG quick enough to get the photo with the AFL ball. And they self promote their sport capital tag. (Which is completely BS) Yet they run scared of world cup.

@footyindustryAU I find it strange how the AFL can't get a visiting international soccer team to the MCG quick enough for a photo opportunity

🇵🇬 Salary Exemption 🇵🇬 Well respected journalist @BulldogRitchie has revealed via @dailytelegraph, the recruitment list for the PNG Chiefs. It’s believed they are going all in and looking to use the salary cap exemption to its full potential. Does this team make the top 8?

@BarryToohey Could it be more waiting for State of Origin. if Lucas gets a run with NSW wouldn't that increase his value?

He can instruct his agent to just get a deal done with the Knights Ben which may or may not happen. Waiting until Nov 1, if that’s what he does, is also not a sign he will definitely leave either. Jsaf and Best both re-signed last time well after Nov 1.
BTP@BPurser123

@BarryToohey hey Baz. In reference to Lucas manager Moses, considering Lucas love for club & especially the players I find it hard to believe he’d be happy with his manger risking leaving. Can he just leave Moses? Even if he requires to pay him out? Cheers

No surprised it’s happened but compared to previous drawn out negotiations, it’s been finalised very quickly. That suggests next to no haggling over money. Great work by the club and KP clearly happy and probably aware that he’s missed a lot of footy in recent years.

@BarryToohey @NRLKnights Is this a unexpected move this early or did you expect a quick decision?

It's obviously a terrible idea and I don't think it would happen. But this gives a glimpse into what the sport under an NRL-influenced independent commission may look like. What it says would go. Clubs will be reluctant to hand over that control. Once it's gone, it's gone.

@MegWellensX @LeagueFreak The constant talk of crowds and NRL. You need to understand that money generated through ticket sales are secondary for NRL. Central funding covers the $11m salary cap plus an additional $2m . Ticket sales is just the cream on top.

You mentioned seven domestic sports in total including the NRL. There are four tiers of full-time football alone before you get to the other tiers. The average regular season attendance in the NRL in 2025 was 20,538. Super League just cracked 10,000 average. That is a lot of ground to make up with a heck of a lot more competition of multiple football clubs on most Super League teams' doorsteps.

When we are discussing NRL investment in Super League I am of course hopeful that it is a ground breaking moment for the sport if it happens, but this is the landscape they are operating in. It is about more than just the Premier League and their monopoly- they are competing with tier after tier of football before you move onto any other sport.
