@ScrapLabs3D @rmrrf What's the range of metals and largest build volume?

@rjward1775 @rmrrf True, lower cost machines do make this a viable option. We also make it super simple to swap and clean the machine if you prefer to have one system for multiple materials.

@ScrapLabs3D @rmrrf Yep. Proper procedure is essential. I'm also thinking the wise option is to simply never change alloys for a given unit. If you need to print another alloy, get a new printer and dedicate it. The clean out seems too risky and error prone. Not just for quality, but safety.

@rjward1775 @rmrrf Aluminum powder is literally used as fuel in solid propellant rocket motors.

@rjward1775 @rmrrf Thats the plan! It can do all of the standard LPBF metals except no reactive powders like Al, Ti, Mg. So we can do steel alloys, Nickel, CoCr, Copper, and prob a few others. Bigger build volume is definitely on the roadmap. Sales from this printer will fund that development.

@ScrapLabs3D @rmrrf I'll be in Colorado the day before this for a different conference in Colorado Springs. I'd LOVE to see it in action though. What metals can it do? Is there a pathway to make a bigger build volume? I read that it's open source.

At the end of Dec '25, we met our target of printing metal on a Scrap Labs printer with an est. >99% density. We’re excited about this achievement because it marks the switch from proof of concept to a full working prototype and the start of our alpha & commercialization phases.

Do you guys like low poly as much as we do?

@amit_ika @__el__toro__ @3dprintingnerd Sure, the parts are welded directly or via support material to the build plate. You can then either break the supports away, use a band saw or flush cutter, or use a wire EDM to cut the parts off of the build plate.

@ScrapLabs3D @__el__toro__ @3dprintingnerd One thing I was looking for but didn’t find in the clip was how bed adhesion and removal works. Could you explain that?

I don't always 3D print metal parts, but when I do, they're usually pretty complicated...
