We have some positive news to talk about with regards future film production and we will hopefully be talking about it next few weeks. We will of course attempt to cast & crew with as many local people as possible so feel free to send CVs/Showreels to info@screennorthants.co.uk.

@Jedshepherd We made this in our production model, which engages disadvantaged young people in process. youtu.be/dGJFVg9Rj7s

@olivervilas1 @dougiebrimson @Jedshepherd We see the same concerns. It is also fuelled by schools who are not aware of the changing job market and scale of the creative and culture sector.
English

@ScreenNorthants @dougiebrimson @Jedshepherd Industry built on connections rather than meritocracy. So many parents I speak to see it as the fun subject they allow their children to do, the one that alleviates them from the ‘serious’ subjects. But the interest and passion is definitely there
English

@dougiebrimson @olivervilas1 @Jedshepherd I agree that age should not be a barrier and we recognise that there is a lost generation. We hope that the model we have created will break that cycle. It will create a level playing field, where the only thing that matters is work ethic.
English

@olivervilas1 @ScreenNorthants @Jedshepherd As a grandparent, I sympathise with that but what about people in their late teens or older who are serious? One only has to look at this thread to see how much older talent needs support, are they not worthy of it? (for clarity, I was in my 40's when I wrote my first feature)
English

@dougiebrimson @Jedshepherd We don’t focus on any particular minority group. Our aim to create a meritocracy of opportunity so that no matter what the obstacles someone has as youngster, they have the chance to reach their fullest potential.
English

@ScreenNorthants @Jedshepherd IMHO, a fixation on providing funding for minority groups has a fatal flaw in that it's entirely dependent on often personal definitions of 'under represented'. If you're going to help the working class, it should be across the board or you're simply disadvantaging someone else.
English

@dougiebrimson @Jedshepherd That is a major disadvantage yes. But there are other underrepresented demographics that we try and affect positive changes with also.
English

@dougiebrimson @Jedshepherd They all had to fit BBC Children in Need criteria. Mainly socio economic disadvantage.
English

@ScreenNorthants @Jedshepherd Define disadvantaged.
English

@Jedshepherd We absolutely do and it can be done. We had 70 young people from disadvantaged backgrounds get experience on a feature thats in the final stages of Post. We hope other film makers follow suit and we can improve things from the ground up.
English

@ScreenNorthants Then we need to engage with the schools and convince the decision makers to make it part of the National Curriculum.
