Just a small reminder: as always, if you have any security reports, please feel free to post them in the corresponding issues channel on our Discord, or send them to contact@screeps.com. We do read everything and will do our best to take all reports as seriously as possible. Please note that issues on GitHub are currently monitored less frequently while we triage the existing backlog of accumulated issues.
Let us further clarify our position: we continue to believe that this is not a "vulnerability" as such, because it concerns the player's own code that they run themselves and are expected to understand. We have not received a single report that such a specific combination of circumstances as described in this article has ever happened to anyone and caused harm. Describing the situation in the way it is described here is, at the very least, a clickbait exaggeration, and at worst, malicious defamation intended to cause reputational damage.
Nevertheless, in order to protect both players and our own reputation, we have already made a change that should close this matter. Read more here: #issuecomment-3796847328" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">github.com/screeps/screep…
Fun fact: There's an MMO game on Steam with over 100,000 purchases that, if played, can allow any other player in the game world to gain remote access to your computer. The devs are aware of the vulnerability and actively trying to hide it. Steam was notified and did nothing.
@IsaacKing314 Since there is a lot of misunderstanding around this situation apparently, we are now adding a separate method `console.logUnsafe`. This will make it clearer to players that it is their own responsibility.
