#OnThisDay 1880 Ned Kelly, the Irish outlaw & bushranger was hanged in Melbourne Gaol despite a petition signed by 32,000 people asking for a reprieve. (Not military history but still an interesting aspect of the Irish diaspora & experience in Australia). #Ireland #History

PIP fraud is at 0.2%. It’s slightly higher for Universal Credit but still v. low. Labour is posturing they’ll ‘flush out’ big gangs. What they’ll actually do is terrify claimants into not spending money on basic things—food, a coffee out—with deadly and demeaning consequences.

Albert Pierrepoint, Britain’s Chief Executioner, became one of the country’s most prolific hangmen, building a legacy steeped in both duty and controversy. Beginning in 1932 and rising to Chief Executioner by 1941, Pierrepoint handled high-profile cases, including Nazi war criminals and Ruth Ellis, Britain’s last woman executed. From a family of executioners, he was known for his precision and professionalism, yet later in life he questioned the death penalty’s impact. Pierrepoint’s career remains a poignant reflection of Britain’s evolving stance on justice and capital punishment.

The Budget was politically clever but economically illiterate. Perhaps the Rt Hon Member for Hackney North was helping out with the sums?

@TomHam70488209 The 2 seat Hunter was often used as an Admirals Barge so that would be my first choice plus we used to have a Canadian Armed Forces pilot who would tell of the F104 flying straight and level and while trimmed to hands free would without warning roll through 360, Disconcerting.
