@ScriptPipeline Oh, no! He announced his retirement in December 2025, but I hadn’t heard this news. I took several of his classes years ago and he was so kind, so knowledgeable, so generous with his time, and endlessly encouraging.

Sadly, Dave Trottier passed in March. Just learned today, 4 months later. Hadn't seen anyone post about it. 😔 If you recognize the name, it’s because Trottier was such a huge name in the screenwriting universe. For decades. His Screenwriter’s Bible lived on many shelves, in all its 90s cover art glory. Can’t quantify how many writers first got the urge to try screenwriting because of Trottier. RIP 🙏

Well, I did not know this. That is lovely to hear. And yes, we're doing another one in just over two week. Improving The Read. One of my favorite topics. Link is in the replies.

Fun fact: To date, @storyandplot holds the record for the biggest, best-reviewed Symposium event of all-time … And he's back at the end of the month by popular demand (*we popularly demanded him back). For the screenwriters, of any level, you'll want to jump in for this one-- symposium.pipelineartists.com/event/screenwr…

This year we're hearing from more and more writers how they think Ai wrote their notes (from PAID services, no less). And some services are promoting their own Ai notes (??). To us... While Ai might be good at summarizing a document, because it's dealing in facts to some extent, it doesn't understand--nor will ever understand, probably--what constitutes a good script (or book, or whatever). For a hundred reasons. You might have seen it before from certain platforms, as if to prove Ai is spot-on: "We ran Weapons through Ai and it got a 7/10!" Cool, that movie is a 10/10, so what's the point? Trying to find a shortcut where a shortcut isn't necessary, so they can sell you some bogus software or subscription...? Anyway. Just hire great readers. They're hard to find, but they're out there, we swear. We've seen it. We have them--real human readers who act human (most days).

"Visually and tonally, it's almost as though the film exists in its own universe, with its own rules, but strung to reality with that inherent reverb of something we've all been affected by: resistance to change." pipelineartists.com/moving-by-nat-…
