Translation: you cannot answer the crony capitalism point, so you’re attacking the messenger. Pierre Poilievre has been elected by voters for years. That is called representative democracy, not “feeding at the trough.” Funny how public service is noble when Liberals do it, but suddenly corrupt when a Conservative wins elections. And “he’s wealthier than the PM” is hilarious. Mark Carney came from global finance, Brookfield, central banking, Davos circles, and climate-capital dealmaking. Pretending he is some humble lunch-bucket outsider is comedy with a trust fund. The issue is not whether Pierre Poilievre has a salary. The issue is whether a Prime Minister tied to elite finance should be building state-controlled investment vehicles that pick winners, steer capital, reward insiders, and call it patriotism. That is the argument. Insults are not a rebuttal. They’re what people use when the rebuttal drawer is empty.

Calling trade diplomacy “traitorous” is what happens when slogans replace thinking. The U.S. is Canada’s largest customer. We sell them oil, gas, lumber, minerals, manufactured goods, food, electricity, auto parts, and thousands of other products that pay Canadian wages. Meeting with American trade officials is not “ass licking.” It is basic adult government. You know what actually undermines Canada’s position? Picking fights with our biggest trading partner for applause from people who think foreign policy is a therapy session. Mulroney got free trade done. Conservatives understood that Canada gets stronger by selling more, building more, and negotiating hard with the people who buy our stuff. That is not treason. That is competence. The real betrayal is pretending Canada can afford performative anti-Americanism while our productivity sinks, our debt rises, our investment flees, and ordinary Canadians get crushed by higher costs. Jamil Jivani going to Washington to talk trade is exactly what MPs should be doing. This isn’t treason. It’s work. Try it sometime.
