@SeanNoonan Hey! It's me, the Crackdown 2 guy. When extracting a dff file from the game, we noticed that Catalina Thorne's model, unused, is sitting there. Was there originally going to be a boss fight instead of a cinematic for her? If so, are you able to share any insight?

@SeanNoonan @__silent_ For Hope Tower, we were actually referring to the tower here. We've noticed in screenshots, it's gone through many re-designs.

@ScruffySfm @__silent_ 3 - Every Freak Lair area went through different design iterations. We used the original Crackdown as a starting point for reference. Then we reinvented the spaces as though they had been renovated/"cleaned up" (post CD1) and then "rubbled" up after the outbreak for CD2.

A good part of those games didn't use RenderWare as a full game engine, but a graphics API - acting as an intermediate framework so they don't need to reimplement rendering for each target platform from scratch. Meanwhile, most games use UE as a full suite. Not a good comparison
Del@TheCartelDel

I've been seeing tweets claiming that, before Unreal Engine, old game studios always created their own custom engines, but that’s a myth. If you ever played PS2-era titles, like GTA, Bully, Burnout, Harry Potter, Pro Evo, Persona, Crackdown, Mortal Kombat, and Tony Hawk, then you played a game that ran on the UK-made RenderWare Engine. Dozens of games used that shit before EA bought and discontinued support for it, (possibly to hurt competitors).

@SeanNoonan @__silent_ @ryan_astley Thank you so much for the insight, and for you taking the time out of your day to answer them. If you have anything else you're willing to share about the second game, please feel free to hit me up on Twitter, or Discord.

@SeanNoonan @__silent_ 7 - Do you know why the LODs (Level of detail) on certain buildings like Corridor Tower look so inconsistent in the final game, until viewed up close? That's all. Thank you for taking the time out of your day for us!

@SeanNoonan @__silent_ 6 - We're not sure if you know about this, but there's a leftover in-game prop only spawnable via an external program that looks to be an untextured Corridor Tower crown. (Screenshot attached)

@SeanNoonan @__silent_ 5 - Based on TGS footage and old screenshots, we've noticed the sky used to look a lot clearer, like in the first game, and the lighting was cleaner. What's the story behind that? Why was it changed?

@SeanNoonan @__silent_ 4 - Was Crackdown 2 built off a beta/alpha build of the first game? We've noticed the geometry matches that of the alpha. Also, apologies I forgot to add the screenshot to the previous

@SeanNoonan @__silent_ I imagine development was a real doozy, considering how much things changed over time. Would you be up to answer some questions I and some friends have? We're very passionate about the franchise.

@ScruffySfm @__silent_ Honestly it was a real whirlwind of a project. There wasn't really a tonne of time to iterate. We did a lot of paper design in order to minimise the amount of reworks required in engine - the tools weren't really built for design iteration.

@SeanNoonan @__silent_ We have a whole Discord community which is probably the only place left for Crackdown fans on the internet haha I haven't found anywhere else. We've been looking for lost media from the games

@SeanNoonan @__silent_ What were the old versions of Crackdown 2 like? We noticed it went through many development phases, like the sky being changed, there originally going to be more absorption units, Hope Tower going through various revisions. We haven't been able to find an old build yet

@MikeEnoch Hey, it's me again! We were messing around in Crackdown 2 with flycam, and noticed that as we went below the map, that the moon was a full model instead of a plane. Any reason that you remember, or anything possibly hidden there? Did the devs tp there to mess around?

@MikeEnoch We found this old gem that I imagine is pre-TGS. I'd love to learn more about how your experience was, working on Crackdown 2.
