(1/2) I've talked about it several times, but people not realizing that Silent Hill, the game series who first three games are about the nightmare world of an abused & raped little girl, a husband killing his wife & dealing with monsters manifested from toxic masculinity, & a

people get mad about silent hill “going woke” as if this franchise didn't start with a little girl fracturing her soul to avoid having her womb used as an incubator for someone else's god against her will.

The reaction to the announcement of the Onyx Awards has been . . . revealing, to say the least.
For anyone confused: a Black-focused vtuber awards show isn't discrimination. It's a spotlight.
A lot of know-nothing dimwits are operating on the kindergarten definition of fairness, ie. "if something isn't for literally everyone at all times, it must be racist."
But that only works if everyone started from the same place. Online spaces never have.
Streaming visibility runs on familiarity, networks, and algorithms. Audiences gravitate toward what already looks "normal" to them, and algorithms amplify what already gets engagement. You don't need a conspiracy for this - you just get uneven discovery. Some creators naturally get boosted faster, others struggle to even be seen.
The Onyx Awards exist to counter that discovery gap. They're not there to exclude anyone - they're there to amplify people who historically get overlooked by the main funnel.
An awards show does one specific thing: it creates recognition. Recognition leads to clips, clips lead to discussion, discussion leads to collaborations, collaborations lead to audiences. No one loses opportunities because this exists. Twitch, YouTube, and general vtuber awards are still right there. Nothing is being taken from you.
This isn't a pie being divided - it's a microphone being pointed toward a part of the room that usually gets talked over.
What's actually happening is psychological. When you've always been the assumed default audience, a space centered on someone else can feel like exclusion. But it isn't removal, it's perspective. You're experiencing (briefly) what minority creators experience constantly: not every room is built around you.
Communities celebrate themselves all the time. Horror vtubers run horror events, indie devs run indie showcases, women have women-in-gaming and women-in-STEM initiatives. Nobody calls those segregation. The only difference here is that the category is people instead of genre.
The Onyx Awards don't threaten the vtuber community - in fact, they strengthen it. More creators being discovered means more collaborations, more viewers, and a healthier ecosystem overall.
You're not being pushed out, you're just not the default audience for once.
Get over it.
