What a privilege to have the interview regarding my MSc study on Cape gannets featured in a documentary that was aired on German TV on the ZDF channel. The documentary is called Terra X Fascinating Earth: South Africa.

@agnesbirgitta Thanks for asking. Fish stocks are driven by regime shifts in the environment and fishing pressure thus solutions: increase the num of and/or expand marine protected areas, have the laws better enforced, and decrease the fish quotas (but with that comes other consequences).

4/4 #WSTC5 #ConsSesh2 │During years with reduced #fish biomass increased #seal predation was experienced, therefore, we suggest that #management focus should be on fish #conservation rather than #predator control measures.

3/4 #WSTC5 #ConsSesh2 │Increased #predation was related to the likelihood of the years in which #predator control occurred. Predator control decreased the predation on an #intra-annual scale but the effect thereof on an #interannual scale was negligible.
