This is purely a speculative question on my part, but humour me for one second.
There’s clearly been, in my opinion, a miscommunication/misconstruing of what Zak said to the umpire. It seems as if Zak said one thing, and the umpire heard a different thing, which happens.
My question is, and it’s related to the umpires employment at a gambling company, is there a chance that even subconsciously the umpire has a larger sensitivity to potential questioning of his integrity as an umpire given his role at a gambling company.
That is not me in any way questioning his integrity, but he would be aware that the optics aren’t great, it probably doesn’t pass the pub test, and therefore, would he be more sensitive to those potential questions from players, which has led to him misinterpreting what Zak has said more so than another umpire would be?

Having worked with Nick Foot, it is nonsense to suggest a job with Sportsbet to analyse racing impacts on his role as an umpire. 👇

Port Adelaide will appeal the AFL Tribunal's decision to find Zak Butters guilty of using abusive and insulting language towards an umpire.
The club believes strongly in Butters' account of events and will formally contest the verdict.

The AFL Umpires Association has thrown its support behind Nick Foot, who re-shared the post on his Instagram story with the tag line: ‘Happy community umpiring week.’
Fresh allegation: “Nick Foot was subject to multiple pointed criticisms of his character when he did not engage with Zak Butters at the conclusion of the game.” 👇

Zak Butters has had his charge upheld by the AFL Tribunal.
Port Adelaide stands unequivocally with Butters and will await the formal Tribunal findings Wednesday morning before considering grounds for an appeal.

@superfooty They have until 1730 tomorrow due to the @AFL incompetence

Despite being “pretty certain” they will, Port Adelaide is yet to officially appeal the Zak Butters verdict — because the club is yet to receive the tribunal’s justification.

@GordosThugs_SC @jacobpafc Disgusting. They should have ended the call and walked out

@1116sen @kanecornes how do you have a serious tribunal when one of them was on a video call while driving his car and you have reported telling of the $1500 fine before the hearing has even started.

Umpiring great Ray Chamberlain has spoken to #AFL360 on how damaging comments questioning their integrity can be, following the Tribunal’s findings in Zak Butters’ alleged umpire abuse hearing.

@RalphyHeraldSun One of the tribunal members is driving around in his car? How the hell can this be taken seriously
English

Port Adelaide will consider the findings when they lob tomorrow morning then strongly consider an appeal on the grounds no tribunal could reasonably have come to this verdict. Butters is angry and if they did appeal he would be removed from the process so he could concentrate on the Hawthorn game. The club could defend his honour in the background. We will break it down coming up on Midweek Tackle on @FOXFOOTY

To not accept Zak Butters' version of events requires you to also dismiss the integrity of Ollie Wines, a highly respected Brownlow Medalist.
Ask yourself.
Are you prepared to do that?

GUILTY
The AFL Tribunal backs the umpire over Zak Butters in his alleged sledge case.

What an absurd sanction when in fact you are talking about the integrity of 3 men here.
What a total circus.
I will be so disappointed if my club delivers anything other than a full throated & unmovable defence of both Zak and (let's not forget) Ollie here.

@FOXFOOTY If Butters is found guilty, the AFL is seeking a $1500 fine.

@kanecornes Butters is definitely an elite player, BUT he is a piss weak captain.
