I left Twitter 12 years ago. I was knee-deep in the #WordPress space. I was part of the community in many ways. We all communicated on "here." Some of the same folks are still around. Some are long gone. I never left WordPress, but I wonder if this is still the place to be. 🤔

@mikemcalister I honestly don't know. When I was younger, I had 2 or 3 answers. I can no longer do those things. Now I'm not sure. Good question.

If you had to make a living away from the computer, what would you want to do?

@MythThrazz Ha! Do what I did. Just build from scratch. wordpress.org/plugins/create… Don't tweak an existing theme. Start blank and turn it into something. That process is what made me realize it was actually good at doing what I would normally do with code.

I am almost ready to say that Full Site Editing is in fact the better way to build/theme a WordPress site. Maybe I'm late. I don't care. I decided to push through some annoyances, and also RTFM again. I think I'm on the other side now. This is actually really good.

@MythThrazz I decided to start with structure and design system only. That's when I realized how good it was at doing what I would normally do in code.

@SeanChDavis Doesn’t it couple the structure with the content though? Also - sounds like it makes it easier for non-devs, right?

@MythThrazz It eliminates scaffolding by file/folder name, src file management, dev env, & version tracking. Less decision fatigue & maintenance. It gives everything a standardized home. Expands block use, eliminating the "hybrid" approach. It does a good job doing everything the dev did.

@SeanChDavis Why? What is good about it?

@jeffr0 It probably depends on how we're defining the term. I'm thinking tools that are designed to be branded/customized for the end user/client, not branded as my own and then presented to the client. I can't see myself doing the latter.

@SeanChDavis I'd love to learn in what situations you think it would be a nice touch.

How important is White Labeling to you as a feature regarding the plugins you use for clients? Is it a feature that determines your purchasing decision? Do you care about being able to white-label the plugin to make it appear like it's your own to the client?

Anyone remember early AI when you'd copy paste code out of a chat app.

@MediaRonLLC @Bovelett Nice! Good luck with the build. I always understood the various components because they're no different from classic themes. I think the UI is what held me back. Writing the code was easier and simpler. I'm not sure I believe that any longer.

@Bovelett @SeanChDavis I’m doing a FSE build for my day job. It took me forever to understand how the different pieces fit together (parts vs templates vs patterns). Slowly getting the hang of it. A few custom blocks, and I really like theme.json.

@KatieKeithBarn2 I agree in most cases. Over time I've developed a distinction between "I want to say something" and "I need people to have this information." I write the former. I make final edits to the latter.

My attitude is that there's nothing wrong with using AI, so long as you use it as a tool rather than doing the work for you. This involves ensuring that everything is in your own voice and that you have added your own experience and professionalism to it. Sadly, despite being grammatically correct, em dashes are a sign that you're using AI in the wrong/lazy way.

There's something very ironic about using AI to remove em dashes from 128 of our blog posts 🙃

Does anyone have a list of "AI-isms" (AI writing mannerisms, words they use)? And I don't mean the typical emdash, but words like: - smoketest - nits ( I started noticing it today ) - you're absolutely right etm. Do you have your favorites? I'm sure there's more of them.

AI is for raising the floor, use it accordingly. Don't let it lower your ceiling.

I write code/build things for the same reasons why I play chess. I can assure you it has never been about money. They both give me something else that I seem to need.

I wonder how long it’ll take for there to be more Jupiter Model Y’s on the road vs legacy Y’s. Still feels like a 10:1 ratio in the Portland area.

@ajaydsouza Did you just upload it? I'm pretty sure lower quality versions go live while higher quality versions are still processing. You may just need to give it some time.

A YouTube question. I uploaded my video, which was an HD video, to YouTube. Unfortunately, all I can see right now is a standard definition version. How do I make the HD videos go live?
