A few moments from a lovely New York weekend. Composers and conductors doing what we do best after Leila Josefowicz and Susanna @MalkkiConductor TORE IT UP with the @NYPhil.

Looking forward to the New York Premieres of my “Old Instruments” with New York New Music Ensemble at the @ResnickPasslof on October 28 and “Tiny Bright Big True Real” with Ensemble Échappé at the American Academy of Arts and Letters on November 3!

NYO USA 2024 Composer Apprentices! Here we are in our fancy box cheering on our happy band with marvelous @MarinAlsop at @CarnegieHall.

This year at NYO-USA, things are bigger than ever. @CarnegieHall is hosting amazing young musicians from 40 countries. Yesterday we had the most amazing Play-In with @GustavoDudamel at the @JavitsCenter.
FIFTEEN ROWS of first violins!

I got my picture taken with some very special people: @AugustaReadT, Chen Yi, Wang Lu and @ASCheung.

“Simple Machines” is dedicated to two generous tent-poles of composition and new music, two dear mentors, David Dzubay and @AugustaReadT, who just happen to be conductor and director of the Grossman Ensemble.

A ferocious band and a genuinely wonderful bunch of people. Getting to scribble and workshop “Simple Machines” for and with them was difficult and seriously rewarding. Expect more from us soon, but it’s a delight to share our recent premiere from the @LoganUChicago.

As far as I’m concerned, Earth Day is every day. We mourn what’s already lost while seeking ever-deeper cooperation and real, sustainable solutions. Humanity’s greatest challenge provides us with a chance to live better and to do better. @Boosey

Also pictured at this dinner are David Dzubay and @AugustaReadT, to both of whom I dedicate “Simple Machines”. Two of the most steadfast supporters of composers and US music. The pretty one with the mustache in the back — well his identity is a complete mystery and secret. 🤐

Tomorrow night my beautiful friends and musical collaborators the Grossman Ensemble premiere my new piece for them, “Simple Machines”, here in Chicago. It’s a killer program with new pieces by Melinda Wagner, Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon and Greg Beyer. Logan Center @LoganUChicago, 7:30!
