Because killing kids & animals in video games is hilarious. It is genuinely fucking hilarious. It’s so far removed from my real world stances on animal abuse & human murder that it moves beyond shocking & into the realm of the absurd. It’s why I & many others laugh manically as we massacre civilian NPCs in GTA. The shit isn’t real, & a game’s ability to completely invert our morals makes it all the funnier.

@SophiaNarwitz Why do you want to abuse animals?

"I was born 87 years ago. For 65 years I've ruled as Tamriel's Emperor. But for all these years I have never been the ruler of my own dreams. I have seen the Gates of Oblivion, beyond which no waking eye may see. Behold, in Darkness a Doom sweeps the land. This is the 27th of Last Seed; the Year of Akatosh 433. These are the closing days of the 3rd Era, and the final hours of my life."
--Today is the 20th anniversary of the initial release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion!

My mom got me this game for Christmas one year. I was maybe 9 or 10 years old. I had never seen anything like it. I’ll be honest, the first time I played it, I played for about 30 minutes before deciding it was the dumbest game I’d ever played. I didn’t know what an RPG even was. I was used to games like Sonic the Hedgehog, Alien 3, Tomb Raider, Duke Nukem, and Mortal Kombat.
About a month later, I remember being so insufferably bored that I dusted off that weird game with a guy and a sword on the cover, popped it into the PlayStation, and, for whatever reason, didn't put it down for months. I got in trouble constantly, failed homework assignments, and lost a lot of sleep staying up late when I wasn't supposed to. I was addicted. Final Fantasy VII opened my imagination in ways no other game had. And I had to read. So much reading. But it was the first time I actually enjoyed reading, which led me to read more, and eventually write.
To say I obsessed over this game is an understatement. It defined my childhood, along with Final Fantasy VIII, and even helped to forge lifelong friendships. It may sound corny to talk about a game like this, but the OP asked what it was like to experience it in real time. I’d argue you can’t fully appreciate a game like this today. The gaming world has changed. Technology has changed. The world itself has changed. It’s a bygone era, and those who lived through it understand what’s been lost.

@dukeofdensity The fact that there are often zero others at the gym during this time, so it’s a nice time to workout.

@SeanZevran Is it at all possible that there other reasons for you to be out late in addition to the gym?
