When Declan’s seizures became life-threatening, his parents faced an incredibly difficult decision. Erin, Declan’s mom, remembers sitting in the pre-op room questioning everything as Declan experienced two seizures within 30 minutes. With the guidance of the care team at Seattle Children’s, they chose to move forward with surgery. Erin still keeps the photo from the day she walked out of the hospital with Declan. Today, Declan is seizure-free and thriving. Learn more about Seattle Children’s Epilepsy Program: bit.ly/4rJFDHf

We want to cheer on Cassandra Fieldson, whose mosquito research captured viral attention on social media — and who is now bringing that same infectious enthusiasm (pun absolutely intended 😄) to the public stage at Seattle’s Ignite event. Cassandra has a rare talent for turning mosquito research into something people can’t stop watching, and we love seeing her passion reach even more audiences through public storytelling. To learn more about the work she’s championing, visit the Center for Global Infectious Disease Research (CGIDR): 🔗 bit.ly/4b3vakW You can catch her presentation here: bit.ly/4unjfpt

Lately the news has felt heavy — and our kids feel it too. You might notice extra clinginess, big emotions, or quiet questions at bedtime. These are normal reactions when the world feels scary. You don’t need perfect answers. Just your calm presence, simple honesty, steady routines, and a little extra comfort can help your child feel safe again. If you want quick, expert-backed steps you can use right away, read “Coping with Trauma & Disaster” — bit.ly/4cFRh24

⏰ Daylight Saving Time is almost here — is your family ready? The one‑hour shift can feel a lot like jet lag for kids, especially younger ones who may wake earlier or get sleepy sooner as their internal clocks adjust. Seattle Children’s sleep expert Dr. Maida Lynn Chen reminds us that these transitions can temporarily disrupt sleep as our social and biological clocks realign. Tip: Start adjusting bedtime gradually, keep routines consistent, and be patient as your child adapts. A few small changes can make a big difference in keeping everyone well‑rested. What happens when research is at risk? Federal funding powers life-saving pediatric discoveries at Seattle Children’s. When that support slows, progress does too. Breakthrough research stalls, and the children who depend on us are put at jeopardy. Research experts work every day to uncover new treatments and cures that help kids live the healthiest lives possible. Research Saves Kids’ Lives. Learn more: bit.ly/4b220BB

This Rare Disease Day, we’re highlighting advancements in genetic medicine. Seattle Children’s, UW, and GeneDx are improving genetic diagnoses for NICU patients - providing answers in days instead of weeks. Rapid diagnosis means starting targeted treatment sooner, significantly improving outcomes for infants. See how this Seattle-based study is providing hope for families like Cayden’s. king5.com/video/news/hea…

“For infants under one, avoiding transfusion during open-heart surgery has historically been nearly impossible,” says Dr. Lyubomyr Bohuta, cardiac surgeon at Seattle Children’s. At just 4 months old, Hermann underwent bloodless open-heart surgery to repair a complete unbalanced atrioventricular septal defect — one of the most complex congenital heart conditions. Home to the nation’s leading blood conservation program, Seattle Children’s offers families the option to avoid blood products for cultural, religious or personal reasons. Hermann’s case shows what’s possible when innovation and family-centered care come together.
