This is Keynesian bilge. Companies are NOT legally required to buy imported goods. A tariff is a levy on foreign goods paid by the importer himself, for the privilege of selling foreign goods into the US. Companies are 100% free to NOT buy tariffed foreign goods and keep their prices level. Ergo, tariffs are just an additional cost of goods sold for everyone below the importer.
